EC has many introverts it seems. Still in the minority it seems, but there is a lot of activity here on the site from introverts, since introverts are more likely to be lurking on private forums and spending a lot of time there.

What is your experience of being an introvert?

For me, I have a very wild imagination that I find it hard to reconcile with the world around me, so to say. I have my head in the clouds a lot.
I also very often feel misunderstood, since extroverts often judge me or are annoyed by me when I retract into myself or tell them that I'm tired and now I need to spend time alone. I get weird looks. I'm also a Highly Sensitive Person, HSP, so I'm very easily hurt by this and it can ruin my day.

That turned into kind of a mini-rant. ^^ My apologies.

    What's it like for you?

PS. Extroverts can join the discussion too, but please, don't write "I think all introverts are such annoying antisocial people", it's really hurtful (and I've seen it before). Thank you.

The idea of an introvert is the ability to live without social interaction - so it seems like an odd thing to ask people who don't need to/want to talk to unite
I don't see anything wrong in introversion as without introverts we couldn't visit Mars! I'm not an introvert myself - just socially awkward some what!
My older brother seems introverted as he never leaves his room and plays on his own (mostly League of Legends) and I get along with him so - as I said - I have no problem with introverts!(!)

    Hello, fellow Introvert!

It's rough. Introversion, coupled with social anxiety make going out and meeting people difficult. I have friends. I don't need new ones.

It can also be difficult living with my girlfriend sometimes. We spend a lot of time together, and it can be hard to say "I just need time away from everyone and everything to collect my thoughts and be with myself."

The only times I'm more comfortable being around people are when I'm drinking, or when I'm acting. With the latter, I'm not actually portraying myself, so it's easier for me to approach people when I'm someone else who is more confident.

Honestly, my social anxiety and introversion are usually at the point where if I'm at a restaurant to eat, I don't make eye contact with the waiter/waitress. It's bad.

@BiBanana No, the idea of an introvert is not to live without social interaction - that's asocialism (as in asocial people) you're talking about. Introversion is about needing lots of time alone. But introverts also enjoy and need human contact. It's just that they need less than extroverts, and get tired if they get too much.

And I can see myself in your brother and playing computer games. ^^ In fact, I'm just about to turn on Counter-Strike.
I think it's interesting what you say about Mars and all! It's true, Eintstein for example was an introvert.

@Doug Yeah, it can be rough. *big hugs*

Well, I was shy in first couple of years of school. Also, I was very quiet in middle school. And, I'm still a bit awkward in high school.

I am an introvert. I wish I could be an introvert without being labelled as an outcast. A hermit. A boring person.

Being an introvert doesn't mean I need no friends. Introverts do get lonely you know? I need great friends and frankly, I would like more friends. New friends are always welcome.

Except...making new friends sounds like a tedious, boring task. Contradictory, right? I need space from people and still need some assurance that I'm not completly disconnected.

That's my experience being an introvert.

Sorry, I will skip the union, sounds too much like a hassle. I will just stay in my room and play X-com 2.

That said, the field I am going in (PR) is relied heavily on relationships and networking...I wonder if I will change thanks to that.

I'm mostly an introvert. I live in an apartment on my own. I do find it lonely sometimes, but I know I need the peace and quiet to work properly. My family or a roommate would probably disrupt that.

I like hanging out with people, but not in big groups. I usually prefer being with a max of four people at a time. This way, we can talk to each other more. After hanging out with people a lot though, I prefer being alone to recharge.

Though, I'm the kind of person who kinda gets along with everyone. You know, I was the kid in Highschool who had friends in every social group :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: However, I don't trust people that easily, so it might take a long time before I consider opening up to my friends about my thoughts. (I've been betrayed too many times by ''friends'' at a very young age. That kind of stuff leaves scars.)

I'm an introvert, and basically everything you described. Not sure if that's due to my introversion alone, I guess my social plays a part. Either way, it sucks. I've spent my whole life wishing I was more outgoing.

I'd consider myself an introvert, though I don't necessarily dislike social interaction or adventures. I just find being social very physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting and having alone time is the only way for me to recharge. I actually like other people's company, just preferably in the comfort of my own home. XD Unfortunately, I don't exactly draw in people and being an introvert makes it that much more difficult. One thing I don't care for is small talk!

Not sure if I count as a true introvert, being very social as a child...

Sad truth is I'm not that interested on people anymore, I just gave up, unless you manage somehow to catch my attention or share something with me, I'd rather act as if you were not there, I guess I'm just an asshole... Who lived on big cities for too long to keep his humanity

As an introvert, people assume that I don't like people, or that I don't like being around them. Personally I find this very untrue. I love people, and I love being around them and getting to know them. I don't go out and see them when I want to "recharge" which is the part that makes me an introvert.

I'm introverted and I have trouble with social anxiety. I love to be with my friends but trying to talk to anyone else makes me want to disappear.
I spend a lot of time in my own imaginary universes that many others don't quite understand. I also might have synesthesia which makes my thinking even more difficult to communicate.

I'm a shy introvert, it's a good thing. It means I can sit on my own and do things, like learning an instrument or making a video game. But I need to learn how to express myself more, but once I do I will be unstoppable.

I have both introversion and social anxiety. Clearly not a great mix. I hate the stigma that surrounds introversion though. Being an introvert doesn't mean you're an antisocial hermit.

I consider myself to be an 'ambivert' but to the public I probably seem to be more of an introvert due to my quietness. I also have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder so that probably doesn't help.

I'm an introvert in the way that I don't like initiating conversation. If someone else can initiate a conversation, I can quickly turn into an extrovert. I'm also just quiet. If I want to say something, I will. I just don't want to most of the time lol.

I'm extremely introverted, mainly due to my social awkwardness. It is difficult to interact with other people without making a fool out of myself, so I try to stay away from other people to avoid embarrassing myself. Around other people, I always have to try to pretend to be normal, which is very difficult and exhausting! But if I don't do it, people don't like me and they make fun of me. >.<

I'm a high sensation seeking introvert. It's fun. I kept calling myself asocial, but it seems that's inaccurate. I enjoy people in small doses! I don't like a lot of commitments
