    1) Coming to terms with my sexuality and having my first ever relationship being with a girl. Going through a lot in middle school and coming out of it as a better person now. Becoming confident. Knowing that in the future I want to pursue music.

    2) I went to camp, I was just being lazy most of the summer. Nothing that stands out, sadly.

    3) a few days after valentines into a relationship with my best friend (girl) We managed to stay together for 9-10 months but then things happened- and we are on break for a few weeks since last Thursday to get our thoughts together and realize whether we want to continue or break up. Happy holidays to me...

    4) Same sex marriage being legalized in the US. Yay

    5) You telling me to choose!?
Erm....TECHNICALLY the music video came out this year. So "I am the fire" by halestorm.

    6) Favorite artist? Halestorm. A fellow EC'er introduced me to them and I'm quite obsessed. The singer is cute too.

    7) To not die. And yes, if I didn't stick to it I wouldn't be posting right now.

    8) Gained confidence and a stronger passion for music

    9) I'm proud of...my parents because they really tried hard to mend our relationship after my depression even though it was my fault, and they changed their views on mental health.

    10) That even if I'm not in love with someone, leaving them (even for a bit) is devastating. That I can't be lazy and expect to see straight A's. That I can't sit around all day whining about my issues. If I need help, I need to try to get help, and then stand up on my own and face whatever I have to face.

    11) First relationship, sexuality, blah...

    12) Yeah. A lot.
I became confident to be myself.
I could present as myself rather than being what people thought I was...and

I Kissed a girl and I liiiiiikeeed it!!!

    13) I'm not sure. All I think of are job qualifications and I can't really get one till I'm sixteen.

    14) It's bittersweet now and depressing to think about. But when my (ex?)girlfriend confessed her love to me was one of the most exhilarating moments of my life....

At the moment? I'd say, the music department at my high school being really supportive and giving me opportunities to do extra stuff!

    15) Lol I have so many but I can't remember one. I'll tell you when I do something stupid again.

    16) My family. My (ex?)girlfriend who is trying really hard to make amends.? My new clarinet!

    17) My mom went to India to visit her father so it's just my sis, me and my dad. We have a nice time together. We decorated, got gifts, had a nice dinner, all that. It was one of my favorite Christmases ever, but it's not my favorite because my mom isn't here.

    18) To practice music and make that a priority. To get my grades up- even though I'm still a decent A and B student, I want to improve. And to be happy.

I really don't know what I hope for to be different..

    19) This really fluctuates. And I hate scales because they're always relative to something and I can't explain it, but it's really hard to give a number to a whole collection of experiences, joy, love, depression.... It's hard.

    20) I hope so! I love it here...

    Merry Christmas everyone!!
    (Or happy holidays!)

    1. The biggest change in my life was taking an involuntary sabbatical from my university. I've been sort of open about this since the news broke back in May, and as the saying goes, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." I'm going to be honest: if not for antidepressants, I have no idea where I'd be right now. Then there was my grandmother who had a stroke and has been living with us since September. Not only her, but her latest charity case husband, and my overly-judgmental aunt, and all our other family cycling through here. Mostly it reinforced to me that I need to always take it one day at a time and just keep my eyes on the prize.

    2. Existed.

    3. This has been an even more challenging time than last fall/winter, when I was so depressed that I couldn't get out of bed. It's been a trial by fire, but were pulling through just fine.

    4. That little thing that occurred on June 26, 2015. When I turned on the TV and saw the news, I called my boyfriend and a couple friends (and they know who they are) to make sure they knew.

    5. "Sugar" by Maroon 5

    6. Not sure

    7. Nope.

    8. Pulling through the last seven months alive and in one piece.

    9. My family for getting through this reality show nightmare for the past three and a half months and counting.

    10. See #1.

    11. See #1 again.

    12. Nope.

    13. Nope.

    14. See #4.

    15. Telling off my judgmental aunt for patronizing me and treating me like some special ed misfit.

    16. Definitely my boyfriend.

    17. Christmas with my mom's side of the family for the first time in my life.

    18. Being back in Kalamazoo next fall with my man again, like we used to.

    19. 2

    20. We'll see.

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?

Definitely transitioning from high school life to college life.

    2. What did you do over the summer?

I mainly spent it either on EC or social media, or getting ready for Uni in the fall.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?

Great! Me and him are going on three months on the 4th.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2015?

Oh boy, quite a few for sure... Probably the SCOTUS decisions on marriage equality and the ACA, the Syrian Refugee Crisis, the elections in the UK, Canada, Spain, and the ongoing coverage of elections in the US, The Paris attacks in January and November, the Concerned Student 1950 movement at Mizzou that I was also involved in that created a national movement, Sandra Bland's death and the failure of the legal system in finding out what happened to her, and the many instances of police brutality and #BlackLivesMatter protests. There are probably more as well.

    5. Favourite song(s) from the year?

Uma Thurman - Fall Out Boy
    American Oxygen - Rihanna
    New Americana - Halsey

    6. Favourite artist(s) this year?

Fall Out Boy, Halsey, Troye Sivan, Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes, Rihanna, Zedd and Galantis.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?

I'm not one for new year's resolutions

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

Graduating high school, going to University and getting all A's my first semester and being a part of change on my campus in many different ways.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?

There are so many, but I would have to say the social justice community at my University for all the change that occurred that we helped push for. The struggle continues though, and we plan on doing more as well!

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

Not everyone is going to like you, and that there will always be naysayers. You just have to set out to prove them all wrong.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2015?

Meeting so many amazing people at University this semester!

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?

Get in a relationship with someone, and come out as demisexual.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?

    I graduated high school :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?

Probably graduating high school, especially since it meant beginning this new chapter in my life.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?

Not really stupid, but it took me a solid month to realize that my current boyfriend was really crushing on me and flirting with me. I was oblivious.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?

My family and all of my awesome friends, as well as EC.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?

Spend time with family and practicing radical self care.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2016? What do you hope will be different?

    Not one for resolutions. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    19. How do you rate 2015 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?

Definitely a 10! It wasn't a perfect year, but so much changed for me for the better that it was amazing to watch.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?

    I definitely hope so!

I also did a meta-analysis to see which years have been the best collectively for EC, and here's what I found.

    2008 – 5.9302 with 129 voters
    2009 – 5.9306 with 101 voters
    2010 – 6.4395 with 91 voters
    2011 – 5.2609 with 69 voters
    2012 – 6.1134 with 97 voters
    2013 – 5.8059 with 170 voters
    2014 – 5.6795 with 156 voters

It seems that we always tend to have slightly above average years. I'll definitely be excited to see what the results for 2015 will be

That was my 2014. August 2013 - May 2014 (aka my 7th grade year) were the happiest months of my life after childhood (I consider childhood before puberty, so for me it'd be 2001 - 2010). I can remember waking up so excited to go to school, which isn't that common at all. I really enjoyed it. Boy, do I miss that feeling. Then after the school year ended it just got worse and worse. By December it was absolute crap.

I'm not sure what makes something as large as a year good vs. bad.

What this year *has* been for me is *very very dense*. It seems like I have lived more than a year's worth of time in 2015, gotten more than a year's worth of experience out of it. Pleasant. Unpleasant. Fun. Challenging. Exhausting. Energizing. Building community. Feeling alienated from community. Maintaining and growing relationships, creating new ones, renewing old ones that had grown colder. Hopes. Disappointments. Triumphs. Lots and lots of figuring myself and my life out. And still so much to do on all fronts. Just intense, intense, intense!

I suppose I can say that it was worth my time. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?
Finally accepted my sexuality and decided I'm going to tell my family and friends I'm gay this upcoming year.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
I did a lot of relaxing, running, and working. No vacations or anything because money isn't exactly abundant in my family. I enjoy the relaxing though, so I was pleased with it.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?
Kind of tough to pursue people in the closet, so the answer is unfortunately no. Maybe in 2016?

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2015?
Gay marriage being legalized across the USA (that was in 2015, right? I can't even remember time anymore) and unfortunately a bunch of depressing stuff, like the Paris shooting and shooting in California.

    5. Favourite song from the year?

"21" by Hunter Hayes or "Traveller" by Chris Stapleton

    6. Favourite artist this year?
Always and forever Hunter Hayes. But Tori Kelly is getting really close to him on my list and her album was sick.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
Nope, I tend not to make any. I have a few this upcoming year though.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
I was able to survive my hardest semester of college and get a 3.94 GPA during that semester (seriously not trying to brag though, I'm just proud of it).

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
Tough question, but I think my brother because he graduated college.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
Some friends aren't going to care as much as you do. There is such a thing as going too much out of your way for people. Your own happiness is just as important as others. Most importantly, it's okay to be different.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2015?
Came out to three friends and plan to come out to many more in the near future. Crazy to think I did this after being in denial for so long.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
^Look at the answer above - haha. Never thought I would come out to people. I imagined myself being in the closet the rest of my life.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
I'm officially a substitute teacher! Going to be in the real world very soon, which is scary.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Wow, I really don't know. I just think of individual times I have spent with family and friends. Nothing really stands out, but I've treasured the time I have spent with people this year and the new friends I've made.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?
Not really stupid, but I messaged a gay guy on Facebook and friend requested him. We are now Facebook friends and I find myself falling for him, even though he is out of my league.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
Health, God, Family, Friends. The only important things to me in life, even though my family stumbling upon some more money wouldn't hurt.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?
Spent the day with my extended family for Christmas. Not doing anything for New Year's; I never really have in the past. But a few weeks after New Year's will surely be interesting because I'm coming out.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2016? What do you hope will be different?
I hope to start eating healthy again, the holidays got me off track. I hope to complete my first marathon. I want to enjoy my experience studying abroad and take advantage of every moment while studying in a different country. I want to be strong when I come out to my family. So many things to look forward to in 2016.

    19. How do you rate 2015 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
    8. Nothing exceptional happened this year, but nothing bad happened either. It's an 8 because I've accepted myself more and I'm very confident in who I am. If I get rid of my acne, I will be 100% confident (Okay not 100%, but even more confident).

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?

Hopefully. After coming out, I don't know if I will be on as much, but I hope to stay on the website to offer people support. This site has helped me through so much and gave me knowledge of a community I really had no experience in. I accepted myself partly because of this site and have met some really nice people. I'm grateful for there being a site like this.

I love this post by the way! I cannot wait to read other people's!

    5. Favorite song from the year?

    6. Favorite artist of the year

    7. Did you make any New Years resolutions this year?
The last time I had a New Years resolution, the year was 1998.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year?
Probably getting ahead in school even though it was a bitch to finish I survived and I made it.

    9. Who are you most proud of?
My family, my friends, ad myself!

    10. Did you learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
    I guess.

    11. Have you had any life changing experiences in 2015?
Oh yea! My dad had his colon removed, I got my license, i went to a new school, my dog passed away, I came out to more people, and my grandfather also had a few health issues.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would?
    Tried weed.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
    I don't think so?

When I got my license and came out to my friend.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?
Oh I've had quite a few!

Have family over for Christmas and for New Years my friend is suppose to come over but I'm not sure if she's still gonna do it.

    18. Are you making any New Years resolutions for 2016? What do you hope will be different?
Actually yes! I hope my dads health improves! I hope that I get a job, graduate from high school, go to college, and get a bf!

    19. How do you rate 2015 on a scale of 1 to 10? (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)
I'm giving this year a 4. Sure i got my license, came out to my friend, got a car and joined a gay group but my dads health was a major issue and it was very difficult and stressful,my grandfather had a few health problems, my uncle and my aunt also had some cancer scares. My dog passed away, and I got annoyed very easily.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
Most likely. I will probably be more absent though as I'm planning on finding a job and going to college.

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?

There wasn't really any momentous change, but I think 2015 has been extremely stable for me. For the past few years, my parents split up, divided assets, I moved house, my brother left home etc., whereas this year I've had the ability to wake up more or less every morning knowing what to expect.

    2. What did you do over the summer?

I went to the coast over the new year and then just relaxed at home. Summer is the only time of the year in which I can get a healthy amount of sleep, so I try to take it easy. This summer, I finished school, had a competition I did really well in and I'll go to Sydney next month, but I suppose that doesn't count (this question's always easier for the Northern Hemisphere).

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?

Non-existent. By God was that a wise decision.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2015?

Malcolm Turnbull's ascension to the prime ministership was definitely the most exciting one.

    5. Favourite song from the year?

    Tame Impala's "Let it Happen".

    6. Favourite artist this year?

I got into Stromae this year.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?

I don't think I made many specific ones, apart from maintaining academic performance, which I did stick to.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

My final academic score. It meant a lot to me.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?

My mother. She made two rapid career progressions this year as well as devoting a great deal of energy to me. I don't think I could have had such a good year without her constantly keeping watch. She's been amazing overall and I'm very proud of her efforts.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

Not really. Having more work than ever and coping with the death of my favourite dog were difficult, but they're things that I knew how to accept and manage. I obviously learnt from them, but I wouldn't call them hard lessons, as they were somewhat predictable.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2015?

    I wouldn't say so.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?

    I don't think so.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?

School certificate and uni entry qualifications, but nothing else.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?

In the middle of the year, I had a week-long event where I made some amazing friends. The whole week was fantastic and I think the memory of that is the happiest I have from this year.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?

I think the day after school formal. I ended up at my house with no key for a few hours, and I was nowhere near recovered from the afterparty. That was the most stupid thing I did, which means I managed fairly well this year.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?

I think my ability to relax. I've no commitments and I don't need to stress about university offers.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?

I spent Christmas alone and I'll go to a friend's party for the new year. I need this time to wind down, so I'm not treating these holidays as a chance to go wild.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2016? What do you hope will be different?

I'm just going to make the usual two which I'd follow without making them: academic performance and health.

    19. How do you rate 2015 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?

    10. I've been really pleased with this year. The highs have been wonderful and the lows have been very character-building. It may not have been entirely happy, but it has been deeply rewarding.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?

No, I won't be. I'm leaving EC before I start university in February.

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?
I graduated from college with my bachelors. It's been a big transition from school to the "real world" and trying to figure out where to go from here.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
A big nothing. I spent a good bit of time with my girlfriend but mostly I was at home.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?
Going strong. Despite my girlfriend moving to the other side of the world to teach English, we've adjusted to the change all right and just celebrated our two-year anniversary.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2015?
So many. The SCOTUS decision on gay marriage. Black Lives Matter. Donald Trump running for president.

    5. Favourite song from the year?
Jet Pack Blues by Fall Out Boy

    6. Favourite artist this year?
Fall Out Boy. Incredible new album and I got to see them in concert.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
Mine are more goals than resolutions. I did start taking riding lessons again but I didn't move out, come out to everyone but family, or read 75 books.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
    Graduating from college.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
    My girlfriend.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
Sometimes nothing turns out the way you plan. It's okay to ask for help but if you want to guarantee that something will be done, you have to do it yourself.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2015?
Not that I can think of.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
    Nope.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
    Bachelors degree in Psychology.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Spending the night with my girlfriend. She was house sitting so it was just the two of us. It was a wonderful night and in the morning I didn't want to leave.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?
I'm sure there's a worse one but last week I was coming home and there was a big accident at my turn. The firetrucks were all parked to block my street and they were waving everyone around. I got in the turn lane and just sat there for a minute while the cars were lining up behind me. Finally, I drove around and had to call my mom and ask her how to get home.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
My girlfriend. My riding instructor. My car.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?
Christmas I spent having dinner with my family. It was a bigger get-together than normal this year. New Year's I haven't decided yet. I have an orientation for my new job but hopefully that'll be in the morning.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2016? What do you hope will be different?
I will be making resolutions for 2016, although I don't know what yet. I hope I'm less dependent on the actions of other people (particularly my family) and that I can work towards being completely independent by the end of the year.

    19. How do you rate 2015 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
    I gave it a 6.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
    I certainly hope so!

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
My mother finally getting a kidney transplant after three years on dialysis.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?
    Can't really think of one.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
That nobody in my family is currently dying and that we've actually managed to go two full years without having to move again? [IMG]

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?
None. I don't get to have fun plans for holidays.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2016? What do you hope will be different?
Nope. And as to what I hope is different, maybe I'll finally find a job?

    19. How do you rate 2015 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
    3.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
    Probably.

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?

Accepting that I am transgender as well as coming out to a few people. I also had a new baby brother born.

    2. What did you do over the summer?

I visited family out of state.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?

    Don't have one.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2015?

The first thing that came to mind was the Ebola breakout.

    5. Favourite song from the year?

"The Shape of My Heart" by Noah & The Whale

    6. Favourite artist this year?

Olafur Arnalds, Sufjan Stevens, or Noah & The Whale

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?

    I don't recall.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

Coming out to a few people as trans, and also beginning to work out.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?

Aydian Dowling. Finding this guy on Youtube was such a huge inspiration to me, and I wish him the best.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

Yes. Mostly about learning to let go.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2015?

Accepting that I am trans and sorting through that has been the prime experience of 2015.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?

Yes. But it isn't a good thing.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?

Graduated high school. And I also worked a job for the first time.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?

It was early morning. I'd been depressed at the time, but this morning I wanted to do better so I woke up early. There was this spot right outside my room's windows - a little grassy area with a big flower bush and small tree overlooking the road. I liked to sit there on nice days, meditatively. This morning it was nice and cool out; dew covered the grass. The sun was just starting to rise and the sky was turning from gray to pink, orange, and blue. I was drinking cold coffee, sitting there all alone on an early morning, barefoot with the wet grass between my toes - listening to Ed Sheeran's "Cold Coffee" song and watching cars pass by. It was beautiful. I cannot explain it, but it was the best thing that happened to me all year and I felt so hopeful in that moment.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?

I can't pinpoint a specific 'most stupid' incident. But there have been plenty of regretful happenings this year though.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?

    My family, still having them.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?

Make it through in one piece. And I need to fill out some job and uni applications.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2016? What do you hope will be different?

I want to come out in January, to my parents and siblings, as transgender. When I turn 18 (in August) I intend to publicly begin my transition and start therapy.

I also hope to go to college, and by doing so, move out.

    19. How do you rate 2015 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?

    4. Only because this was one of my hardest years, emotionally.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?

    Maybe.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
    My younger brother.
    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
