Some people get worked up over such little things I don't see what the big deal is about this. It's just a joke.
You get countless advertisements that portray men as idiots, incapable of completing even the simplest tasks, only for the intelligent women to intervene and save the day. I don't see the problem with this at all, in relation to the above. It's just another case of certain women who want equality only when it suits them.
Seems like a joke between the family. I don't know why it garnered so much attention in particular when there is a lot of blatant sexism in other places that don't seem to be noticed. Granted people can interpret the picture in other ways. I'm not sure the PC police hit the mark with this one.
I see people keep alluding to a joke somewhere there, but I don't get it. Can somebody explain to me what the joke was supposed to be?
There's peace on earth because the girls in the family can't talk i.e. They cause some kind of conflict all the time. etc. Not my kind of brand in humor, but I do have members in my family that talk way too much, and instigate a lot of problems. So. I get the theme.
2 males where involved in the picture and 4 females where involved, if it was so offensive the mother or photographer would probobly object
I dunno. I'm not offended persay but I don't see why the hell it's funny. Just seems tired, old and that family seems like the kind of people who'd obnoxiously share photos of the elf on the shelf in bondage on Facebook.
Those advertisments are sexist towards women. A lot of people aren't well educated on sexism, female or not. So, no, it wouldnt make the picture not sexist even if there were 100 women in the photo.
Welp this is old, and it really should be put to rest: the main sin of this image was context: we don't know why these women have tape over their mouths and are bound, so our minds have to make up the context; unfortunately, that leaves us with rather unfortunate implications (hence the outrage). Even with context, though, the joke is still sexist to a degree: the joke is that these women are really talkative, so by taping their mouths, the boy and his dad get some peace of mind. The problem is that "these" women could be any amount, and thus the joke hinges on a stereotype unironically. The main thing to take from this: context is critical, don't leave people to interpret a joke that you plan to be taken a certain way, unless that's the intention.
