Why is any American politician who is even slightly left-wing labeled a socialist? Where does this come from? He's really no different to the majority of leaders in Western Europe. Hillary Clinton would be a conservative by our standards - and wouldn't get my vote if she stood here, unless she was the best out of a bad bunch (an unfortunately regular occurrence in politics).

Donald Trump.. to be completely honest, I thought his presence in the presidential race was satirical, but apparently this man is serious and believes he has what it takes to govern a country - and what's even scarier is that many Americans agree. The thought of this man at the helm of the world's foremost power is a scary, scary thought - and would surely be an even greater disaster than Bush.

Can I say none of the above? Honestly I think O'Malley is by far the best candidate out there, not that I think he actually has a chance since politics in America is more about reality television than governing a country.

Since those are our three frontrunners though...
1. Sanders. No doubt. Strong advocate for lgbtq rights, anti war, recognizes climate change as the serious issue it is. I think he's way to extreme for me economically, and is also too single issue campaigning on his anti-wall street thing. But I like him quite a bit, so I'll accept that.

2. Clinton, I guess. I mean, her entire campaign is "vote for me, Im a woman." But she still better than trump (and most of the republicans).

3. Trump. Why are we not treating this clown like the joke he is?

1. Bernie. I don't care what political label he uses, I like what he has to say on the issues.
2. Hilllary. I'd only vote for her because I would hate to see any of the insane republicans win in 2016.
3. Trump... He could be killed by the drug cartels for all I care.

Sanders is labeled a socialist because he's significantly more left wing than the vast majority of left wing political figures over here. Same goes for Hillary being considered liberal. She isn't as conservative as our conservatives, and is thus labeled as a liberal. The existence of the Republican party makes a lot of people who really aren't particularly liberal seem liberal and people who are actually liberal appear socialist. That's what I think anyway, but I'm kind of an idiot so take it worth a grain of salt.

That's not all true. Hilary isn't a socialist but Bernie sanders definetly is.

Show me an example of Bernie Sanders calling for an end to private ownership of the means of production, and I might begin to believe you. Bernie is a Social Democrat, which means he believes in a mixed capitalist/socialist economy where the federal government provides a basic standard of living for its people. I don't really see what's too unreasonable about that, but I can see that many in America still hold a very misguided and visceral reaction anytime they hear the word "socialist" in a sentence. Believe me, if you take Bernie Sanders over to Europe, he'd maybe be center-left, if that. Hillary would be a center-right politician. American politics has become so skewed to the right that people like Bernie Sanders get called socialists by people who have no clue what the actual definition of the word is, because they were told by the establishment that "Anything to the left of the Democratic establishment is socialist".

Now, actually getting onto the question asked, Sanders and Clinton are the only two I would feel good consciously to vote for. I feel that Bernie has a much better record in certain issues, and is much more populist and a ideological purist than Clinton, and I think that's why he's really resonating with those in the progressive camp. Clinton has a long political history, and while I wouldn't be nearly as excited to vote for her as I would Mr. Sanders, I would still vote for her in any theoretical presidential election vs any of the Republican candidates. It is of my belief that Donald Trump is a fascist.

Not American, but I can assure all of you guys in the US that the rest of the world will not welcome Trump as President. There is very genuine concern abroad that he may get the keys to the White House. I would go as far as saying anyone other than Trump.

For me:
1. Bernie - I think legalising weed if he can do it would be great for America (and other countries as a knock-on effect) - lower crime, better economy, fewer gangs, perhaps better healthcare
2. Hillary - a decent runner up, I think she is very "Presidential", and not too dissimilar to Obama in how she engages with the public. And whilst I hate "tokenism", at least she will set a bar to show, yes women can be President.

Trump, don't even go there.

I think its similar to the irrational fears and beliefs many Americans have about the UK, labelling it a "socialist state", and believing myths like the Queen having power, the country having no democratic vote etc. I think its a old surviving remnant of the revolution, putting on the rose-tinted glasses and making sure the grass is greener.

You hear similar comments and attacks against Canada.

Yeah, my history book lists Canada as one of the most communist countries, along with the Soviet Union, which is also still listed as a country in it...


According to school:
Trump: Great morals and ethics
Hilary: Horrible morals and ethics, and no woman should have authority, and no gay person should be alive (they say she is...)

Trump is just racist, sexist, and ignorant.
Hilary is equal with Bernie, but I would like to see a woman president (and hear the response from school, when Obama became president we were told he wanted to kill everyone).

Bernie is my pick. I encourage all who hate Bernie for the idea of him being a socialist to watch the speach he gave about democratic socialism which he alligns with not socials very different. it can easily be found on youtube.

Bernie Sanders or bust. Its a shame that people will disqualify him for being a democratic socialist without knowing what that even is. Also, when people say that he wont get stuff done because of congress then theyre basically saying that the election of the president really doesnt matter. Bernie will put supreme court justices on the bench that will repeal citizens united and start the process of getting the power back to the people

Hillary is a republican and if she gets the nominee, i will be voting for Jill Stein of the green party. Hillary is in the pocket of Wall Street, private prisons, Monsanto, etc.

Refuse to think of trump as an actual candidate so ill comment on the only republican I would consider voting for, which is Rand Paul. Id vote for him over Hillary just on the fact that hes not a neocon
