Native portuguese speaker here. I am fluent in english and spanish, and I hope I get the opportunity to learn german someday
I've been learning German for almost three years now, both in and out of the school, and I'm getting to become more fluent I would like to be fluent in maybe another year of studying
I took French and Latin classes in high school, but I don't remember much of it. I also tried learning Japanese, Arabic, and Icelandic and experienced the same result.
I speak English and Latin (odd, I know) and I can have a very basic conversation in Irish, with the goal of being fluent some day.
I've just given learning the language a second chance, and because I know a bit of Spanish and very limited Dutch/German, I'm absolutely speeding through it using Duolingo.
The word roots are European. The grammar is a mix of Asian grammar. It is best to use the roots already in it.
I'm a native English speaker, intermediate Japanese. I plan on learning Russian after too I find immersing yourself in the language as much as possible helps a lot!! Watching shows, movies, having a go at translating word for word and singing music lyrics. Also, get a basic grammar book of the language to start with because this will help you translate everything that you hear a lot more accurately and easier!!! I'm not sure if it's available in the languages that you want, but also I've found the Pimsleur audio conversation CD's to be the best!! They are so good! I bought the first lot for when I started Japanese and it helped so much. Even with pronunciation. If you can't find them at your library, I know you can also download them from torrents online, or purchase them. Anyway, it's so fun learning another language and using it. Good luck!
Could you give an example of "Asian grammar" in Esperanto? :icon_bigg I'm not aware of this, I find it interesting to see if that's true. =)
Fluent in English. Did three years of French in school. I never use it but if I read it a lot comes back. Currently working on Russian
I speak some Spanish due to wear I live but I'm certainly not fluent in it. I am learning Esperanto though.
I only know English, but I've recently started learning ASL, which is going pretty well so far. I'd like to learn German or Spanish. Or both.
Cool. I'm planning on learning BSL, but I have no idea how to go about it as of yet. I already know a couple of words (gestures?).
I know English and French, and I've probably studied everything to some extent at one time or another. I have workable knowledge of Dutch, German, Russian, Finnish, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, Mandarin, and Japanese, so I won't be completely at a loss if I visit places which speak those languages. I also have studied a couple of constructed languages and have made a few of my own. Finally, I did field research with an endangered linguistic group, and have basic knowledge of their language as a result.
Got an A in GCSE Spanish, taking it at A-level next year and University after that. I got a B in French, so I'm kind of okay at that, but my pronunciation is hideous. I know a few words in German and can swear in Russian, and that's about it. And I can do some basic stuff and some song lyrics in British Sign Language I'm only fluent in English right now, but I hope to become fluent in Spanish very soon
My motherlanguage is italian. I can speak english fluently and at the moment I'm trying to improve my German and learn French. I know some Spanish as well!
My mother tongue is Bulgarian. I speak English fluently, I'm also good at German and I'm trying to improve it. I have basic knowledge of Russian and I want to learn Japanese and some norse language.
Just thought I'd update this thread considering it's the biggest language thread I've seen. I started learning Czech tonight and know about 10-15 words, using Memrise. My motivation for it is to be able to communicate a little when I go to Prague, and to make the effort to try and speak my friend's language, as she's so great at speaking mine. She's actually better than me. I haven't practiced Spanish in a little while, but I do text little things in Spanish every day.
