I will be a senior in high school this up coming year, and I have been thinking a lot about going to college. I'f i do end up going to college it would be either for Vet Tech, or writing.

I have always loved animals (Despite me never owning any haha). And i feel that i have a deep connection to animals for some reason. Don't know why, but i do.

I have also loved to write since I was little. Sometimes I would write short stories, or episodic type stories.Or sometimes they were just flat out novels. never had the drive to actually finish them though, as i'm extremely self conscious about anything that I do.

    What abut you all?

    Have two masters degrees...

Think I'm good from that side of the classroom.

Applying for med school this year. (However, the system in Brazil is really different from the U.S.) All I have to do is study my ass off.

I'm in my first year of medical sonography (ultrasounds for babies, et cetera) but I'm highly tempted to drop out and study graphic design/animation like I've always wanted to.

My plan is to get into a good school on the East Coast, and study something like political science, history, or international relations. At least, as a major. Not sure what else I'd like to study beyond those. I'm very interested in linguistics and English too.

What area of linguistics, Tennyson? What language family is interesting to you? Afro-Asiatic? Indo-European?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Indo-European_language

It's a really cool topic. If you are sufficiently dedicated, there are specific projects you can find that linguists are really looking for manpower on, but you have to really have a consciousness of what is going on, in the field.

Any topic, in that kind of area, is going to be like that. It can only be a potential way for you to earn a living if you really are dedicated and really can fight with big dogs. There are a lot of people with degrees in the humanities starving their eyes out. That's not because the humanities are a bad thing to get into, but it's because, if you really want to do well, you have to be hot. You have to be a wolf on a scent.

If you're interested in money...eh. Money is easy. However, people who just go into whatever line of work pays the best are those people who, when they get to late middle-age, are saying, "As hard as I've worked, I have all this entitlement!" They feel that way because, for them, their jobs WERE actually drudgery. They never believed in what they were doing. Of COURSE they feel like the world owes them something; they never actually tried to get anything out of life. It's not that you can't believe in such things, and there are many who do. They have very fulfilled lives and also live prosperously. Just beware of an empty pursuit of wealth because, no matter what you do, you will take out of it what you put into it, emotionally and spiritually.

On the humanities again, topics of that nature, for you to even scrape by, require you to be fierce and competitive, and it requires you to have a cause that you believe in. If what you're into is your personal "holy war," then you can retire fairly comfortably, simply because that motivation gives you an edge. It's not a BAD set of subjects. I'm just cautioning, knowing what kind of drive you need to do well would be very wise. My partner was a historian. He lived fairly prosperously because he had an extremely deep passion and something he believed in. He became one of the most honored and beloved historians in the state. The humanities are not bad subjects at all, but never EVER go into that area just to make a living, or you won't have one. What puts food on your table and keeps a roof over your head is having something that matters to you, assuming that is going to be your field.

I'm in my second year of Law school. I don't really like it but I don't think I would be better anywhere else. I'm sure as hell not dropping out.

Finally becoming a (certified) GNU-Linux administrator.
Another option once I'm done with this : To finish my electronics degree.

And I do have this foolish little dream about working as a detective. At least to give it a try, see how it feels to get paid for a hobby.

I'm most in interested in Indo-European languages, especially Greek and the Romance languages, but I'm also interested in the Uralic family and the language families of Africa (as I'm an Afrophile).

I agree it's a very cool topic. I think I'm most interested in language history--how languages evolve and how they spread over certain areas.

I have a BA in English and I wanna start one in Music soon and after that maybe a post-graduation in Translation or a degree in Speech Pathology or Biology. There are a lot of things that I wanna pursue.

I think it is great that you wanna be a vet, when I was your age that was a career I considered for a while. But you should keep in mind that it is not just about loving animals, you have to be prepared for seeing them in terrible conditions. I don't know if there is a lot of animal cruelty where you live, but here it is unfortunately common and while I have no trouble with blood, broken bones and stuff I knew I could never deal with the emotional part. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be discouraging or anything, it's just that sometimes we idealize a career and we overlook some of its important things.

Please don't take any offense to this, but you reminded me of this amazing musical.

Anyways, to answer OP's question, I'm going to college in the fall to dual major in Political Science and Journalism (Pre-J at the moment). On the journalism front, I'm leaning towards an investigative front like convergence or watchdog. I also want to get a minor. The problem is, I don't know what to minor in. I'm stuck between psychology, sociology, social work, communications, women and gender studies, LGBTQ studies, and maybe even geography. After I get my Bachelor's, I want to go and get my Master's and eventually a Doctorate in Political Science.

As someone who's going into PoliSci, a warning to someone else who's considering it from someone who has talked to various PoliSci majors: Lectures will be very agonizing, especially if you get put into lecture halls with a bunch of people who have contrary political beliefs. Just make sure to keep a cool head, stay substantive in your arguments, and don't go to ad hominem and other logical fallacies. Although seeing your posts here, I don't think you'll have a problem with any of that :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Also, realise when it's just better to quit talking about a certain topic, and when not to delve into one at all. My friend had a bunch of people in her class that hate the concept of judicial review (you know, the one thing that gives the judicial branch the authority to tell the constitutionality of laws? Yeah, that.). There can be infuriating lectures for sure.

I fear I'm beyond the realm of the target audience by a few years here, but I shall answer anyway. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

As one who is averse to institutional education, I fear I am very unlikely to ever pursue higher education. Upon "completing" (I employ the term loosely, as I was homeschooled) high school I was so inundated with the tempting offers for the future, yet so crippled by choice that I had a breakdown. High school was so difficult for me socially I doubt I'd ever elect to undergo the experience again, just with a much higher price tag since advancing one's education is quite expensive.

It just isn't something for me at this point in my life. But I never say never.

I haven't figured out the specifics ( or sorted out my financial aid issue ) but I'm mostly interested in pursuing animation as a career path.

I like to write, and I've been learning to draw. I'd really love to bring stories to life even if it takes a painstaking amount of time and patience to do so.

I'm not really worked out on the details though xD

Currently i'm in the 1st year of Medschool to get my MD

After i got my MD i'll continue my education with master degree in Radiology and Nuclear Therapy or Cerebrovascular Medicine.
Then after that eventually a residency for specialists or even doctorate

On the contrary that's the best part of PPE for me  I like arguing for the sake of arguing, if I meet someone who's a Tory I'll say I'm voting UKIP just so I can have the debate (I love being the devils advocate) :goodevil:

There's a few SNPers in some of my lectures and I just love ripping into them with the stats the SNP publish on government sites as it is a total contradiction to the SNP ideology and they cannot escape it, part of me just loves trapping people between their party ideology and reality.:eusa_ange But yeah keeping cool is key to winning arguments, I can cite references and years off the top of my head while someone has lost it and is shouting at me; while that person will likely still believe they are right, most others will see that you won. Though it is particularly fun when you have a lecturer with polar opposite views as they can never insult you and you can see that they want to say something but can't, the worst they can call me is a 'functionalist'

It was quite amusing to see that I was an ENTP ("the debater") as the description was me to a tee!
