Guys: Would you wear a Kilt?

There's also the other reason that it's called a kilt.... That's what happened to the last guy to call it a skirt.

 

I would like to wear one. But an actual skirt would be better...

 

I actually tried one on once. I was supposed to use it in a prototype 71st Highlanders impression (reenactment), but went nowhere.

 

Imagine this poll for heels... (remember heels were first made for men).

 

OFC I would! Being Scottish I would love to wear the tartan colours of my family and a sporran with my family crest.

 

Nope, I deff would not wear a kilt period... nor would I rear shorts in public (wouldn't want anyone seeing my legs :eek: )

LOL I'd do heels before a kilt (but I wouldn't even attempt to walk in such, due to the fact that I'm old & have bad knees)

 

haha, i would assume that the guys in this forum would rather wear a kilt than heels because kilts are associated with masculinity... which is funny because heels were first invented for men.

 

I would if I passed, but only in Scotland and with underwear.

 

If the comparison shot in your profile pictures is you, You pass at least from the shoulders up. (the picture I saw didn't go lower than that) You'd be surprised how masculinizing a kilt can be. The lines in the tartan combined with it being heavy enough to hang straight down will help create the visual of a boxier body shape, especially if paired with a pressed woven shirt. And the sporran will add volume in front....

What really annoys me (probably more than it should) though is the amount of Welshmen who wear them for their weddings claiming its a "heritage" thing...when there is zero evidence of kilts being a tradition in Wales. It is an entirely a modern invention!

Look, if you want to wear a skirt on your big day for a novelty or because "it'll be a proper laugh innit!" then go for it. But don't try to excuse your true intentions by making up history to justify it! Be a man and proudly wear a skirt!

Actually quite a lot of "female products" were first invented for men. It kind of makes sense really, as historically it was a "man's world" so of course investments and research would be going into products that benefited men first and foremost before trickling down to women's use.

Things like eyeliner (from Egyptian Kohl) to modern day hair conditioner - actually developed to give Victorian men shiny hair.

They originally used something called Macassar Oil which was very greasy, they then moved on to a product called Brilliantine (the origin of your Mad Men slicked hair!) in 1900 which really was the birth of modern day conditioners.

Nah... Most likely not. I have no reason to and probably will never be in a context where wearing one would be appropriate. And no underwear? Does your junk just fly around? I could never understand people who freeball... It seems very very uncomfortable and almost painful.

Yeah it was cos it made men appear taller (being tall is associated with dominance to some people). Men in ancient egyptian times also wore makeup to enhance their beauty. Clothing for genders is all socially constructed. Pink also used to be a boys color... A lot of gay men have internalized homophobia so would not wear anything seen as feminine.. there is not much difference than a kilt and a long skirt.. That is why I was questioning how different this poll would be if it was for heels.
