I think it's a piece of shit that should never have been written. And I hate the fucking storyline. I dislike Christian and wish there was a lesbian version. Nothing about that guy is appealing.. probably because i'm a lesbian though right? The girl is way cuter imo. I don't plan on ever seing the movie. So my opinion? It's kinda obvious now isn't it.
I read it when I was 14 and it was the first novel I have ever read. As a starting reader, it kinda got me aroused but it was a tad boring. Yeah it's a trilogy so there is character development but it still doesn't work for me. It's cliché as an 18+ hardcore one direction fanfic. Imo it was written to satisfy a mom's carnal desire. ---------- Post added 24th Apr 2015 at 10:12 PM ---------- My friend will get mad at me for saying this because she's a huge fan of fifty shades but I have to agree with you. There's nothing appealing to Grey but his money. He's just a filthy rich playboy who found his 'true love' in the form of an innocent girl named Anastasia. I saw the movie with my friend and it's like watching porn on a theater full of hormonal teens and moms.
It was originally supposed to be a Twilight fanfic. The fact a film/book like this can do well, gives me hope that, one day, a work of mine will grace the big screen.
I haven't seen it, but I hear enough about it. If it makes you happy, that's cool, because I have my own oddities. Although you could probably write a better fanfic. It's getting more people talking about BDSM. I have mixed feelings about that. Maybe I'm overly paranoid, but I worry that it could cause readers/viewers to mix up abuse and love. Christian Grey, is an abuser. He's not a responsible sadist. It personally pisses me off, because I've been fighting that "evil" sadist image. Somebody might bring this up, so... yeah, terrible things happen in the works of the Marquis de Sade, but it's so over the top, that most folk can tell it's exaggerated. I think it's okay to have hardcore fantasies that you'd never do in real life. Maybe the book/movie is just wank material to some people. I simply hope folks do their research, if they actually want to try out BDSM. For example, if you use silk scarves, to tie somebody's hands... that could cut off their circulation. Same goes for ties.
If Christian would have lived in a caravan in the woods, it wouldn't be classed as 'romantic' anymore. I haven't watched the film nor read the books though. Not going to support it that way.
Neither of the stars are good looking in my opinion. I wouldn't even notice Christian Grey if he walked past me, even dressed up in the nicest suit. I thought they would have had more magnetism, other than power and money, which isn't magnetic to me, to make watching it more probable. There was a scene in the book - the tampon removal scene - that had to be yanked for cinematic release. I did not read the book. I only heard about that. They do that sometimes. In "Scarface," the scene at the motel for the drug deal with the chainsaw was cut short to keep an R rating and be suitable for more widespread cinematic release. I would not want to see either, but I could handle the tampon removal scene only slightly better than the uncut version of the chainsaw scene. I may watch "Fifty Shades of Grey" years from now - for $2, $1, or free, which is all it is worth to me.
The book was dull, they should have focused on a different book. I'd love to see a Wheel of Time series done on hbo or something, like what they did for A Song of Fire and Ice.
I don't know, I think It's trash personally, especially since it started out as twilight fanfiction. It also bothered a friend of mine who practices BDSM because of the confusion of BDSM and abuse (the relationship was quite abusive really).
