It's amazing the extent this so-called libertarian goes to try to separate himself from the rest of the born-again and assorted GOP loonies seeking the presidency, but here we have it: Rand Paul slams gay rights in unearthed 2013 interview: “I don’t really believe in rights based on your behavior” So according to Paul, being gay or bi is just a 'behavior', and not integral to one's identity, not part of who one is. At least he's made that much clear, and we know where he stands.
And I don't believe you deserve to breathe the same air as civilized humans based on YOUR behavior, Rand Paul. There is a tree somewhere that's giving you oxygen, and you owe that tree an apology.
If I'm correct, religious affiliation and military status are also behaviours. Why isn't Mr. Libertarian here trying to strip the rights of people who choose their religion and military status? Oh wait that's right: he's only a Libertarian on about two issues, a conservative wolf in libertarian sheep's clothing.
Ah yes, principled champion of liberty, Rand Paul. He had such a great lil grift going, will be fascinating to see how he navigates balancing his libertarian precepts against the demands of his party.
Rand Paul is a flip flopping joke who does not deserve to be taken seriously. He is a far right republican and there is no other way around it no matter what he says.
I think you very much nailed it here. Even in terms of his whole 'lets not get involved in foreign wars' spiel, he's been all for increasing defense funding, going along in lockstep with the rest of the GOP. Sen. Rand Paul Offers Amendment to Boost Defense Spending Seems he's suddenly seeking a $190 billion increase, over the next two years. I've still never really found out what areas he's so liberal or moderate on. All I can think of is marijuana, and even there, I haven't seen anything come of it; he's been far from some vocal champion for decriminalization or legalization. At best, he pays lip service, and you hear how he smoked weed in college, as if that is some kind of credential.
Rand Paul is a Republican. It doesn't matter whether they call themselves "libertarian" "moderate", etc., at the end of the day he is a Republican and the Republican Party is the Party of Bigotry.
They belong to the Party of Bigotry. A Jew registering to join the Nazi Party does not render the Nazi Party free of anti-Semitism.
Well, I am conservative(not Republican), and I really take offense to that. I am not saying I am voting for Paul, but you are being bigoted back to your fellow LGBT'ers.
Does this mean he will not support religious freedom rights bills also? I mean, religion is a behaviour too, right?
Yeah, this doesn't make any sense. Unless he can somehow prove that a person's religion is more "innate" than their sexuality, he doesn't have any justification to prefer religious rights over LGBT rights.
Pointing out that one party is pushing an explicitly anti gay agenda hardly makes one bigoted towards anyone.
What they are calling "intolerance" of these anti-gay laws is simple and legitimate criticism. I suppose it's easy to confuse the two, but generally, when someone restricts their actions to complaints or criticisms, they are generally not too busy persecuting anyone.
Its the most ridiculous kind of pearl clutching sophistry. Pointing out that if this bill has no place as written in a tolerant society makes one the intolerant one.
With all this stuff going on 2016 is gonna be a blood bath and one of the most intense elections in US History.
