I get it every once in a while. I remember reading an article recently that said if you wake up and can't move to wiggle your toes and it should wake you

I get it infrequently. The first time was a little scary, but after a while it didn't bother me at all - if I wake up and can't move, I either go back to sleep or try frantically to move my fingers until I can move again.

I have sleep paralysis every time I take a nap in the morning, but I never find it scary, if anything I become more curious as to what's happening. For me, it's more of an interesting experience.

Thank you guys for posting your opinions, though I'm not too sure about the monitoring thing.

This has happened to me. It was terrifying, later on I discovered it was more common than I thought, and had nothing to do with paranormal things (or so I want to believe).

During that time, my mom had started to go to a evangelic church, and then she made me go with her. Of course in the religion and church, if you don't follow strictly what they claim you are wrong and condemning yourself to hell, or even say that you may be possesed by some sort of demon or evil force.

Well, one of those nights, during that time, I went to sleep. Suddenly awake in the middle of the night, looked around and saw an obscure humanoid figure, with no face (grim reaper?) staring at me. Tried to move, tried to scream and call my mom who was in the next room, with no success, finally I prayed to god and got awake in that precise moment. The obscure figure dissapeared.

It has not happened again, but is curious to me that it only happened when I started going to this church.

Entirely coincidental. There isn't any evidence to support the idea of demons and all that other sh*t.

It happens rarely for me but I actually enjoy it, oddly enough. I have restless leg syndrome, so the paralysis keeps my body still for a change and i find it really relaxing. It's not at all scary to me. Weird.

I agree. I however believe that it could have been incfluenced for going to church, as I said, they try to convince you and made you feel there is something wrong and evil inside you.

I continued going to this church, but eventually stopped going, is boring for me, felt out of place, and I don't really agree with them.

I get it on and off. It usually happens if I wake up and then fall back asleep again for the second time. Usually I can pinpoint the exact moment that it happens - but by the time I realise it, it's too late and I'm already paralysed. It's sort of like lucid dreaming because I'm aware that I'm asleep and can't move but can't force myself to wake up properly. Sometimes I get something akin to an out of body experience - I'll feel like I'm moving my hand, e.g. so that it's in front of my face, but when I look, my hand isn't there, it's still lying on the mattress next to me.

  11. Yes I have. What's even worse is that I get bouts of sleep apnea as well. It's incredibly scary and I panic every time.

l have a cousin who suffers from sleep apnea, he sleeps with a machine which helps him breathe. im sorry you have to go through this, and with the addition of sleep paralysis it must be very frightening. (*hug*)

I don't think that the monitoring it's so important. My mother, who, as I said, suffers from a severe sleep paralysis, has done the monitoring but that time she hadn't any attack so the result was normal. Anyway the neurologist believed her and cured her.

If I can give an advice, go to a specialist, it's disease usually misunderstood and underestimated, the family doctor for instance didn't know it and not even understood.

I get it all the time, it's usually caused by having breathing issues (like a deviated septum) or too much stress or tension.

As far I as I know, I've never had it.

Prior to me seeing this thread, I've never even heard of sleep paralysis.

I had to go look it up.

I have it every now and then. It's super scary, but I've kinda gotten used to it. Eventually I fall back asleep and when I wake back up it's gone.

I have had bouts of it since I was a kid. Unfortunately, mine are the kind that are accompanied by hallucinations, where I "sense" someone or something else (non-human) very threatening in the room. It's usually the same scenario, where I'm either approached from behind, with something or someone whispering nonsense in my ear, or they are hanging out across the room staring at me. It's like not quite waking up fully from a nightmare and is rather terrifying to say the least.

Fairly often, but I always thought this was just a normal part of the sleep/dream/waking process. Has been both scary and relaxing, depending.

I have a lot of stress...always have been a very worried person.

I've experienced it once or twice.
