Joss Whedon's Firefly is probably my favorite tv show ever. That and all of Star Trek . . . I think Firefly owes a lot to Farscape and Bladerunner. There's a ragtag crew living on an unusual ship and they're always avoiding the law (like Farscape). Firefly's depiction of the future is not based on Enlightenment ideals (unlike Star Trek, but similar to Bladerunner) and Chinese culture figures heavily in it (like Bladerunner). What do you think? Also, who is your favorite character in Firefly (if you have one)? I have a hard time choosing, but I think Jayne is great. He has some of the best one-liners and the tension created by the threat of him betraying the crew for money, while he still cares for them in his owe way, is interesting.
You could call me a Browncoat and I wouldn't be upset . I haven't seen Farscape but I of course know Bladerunner. I can see some influence, too, though Bladerunner is very cyberpunk while Firefly is very much "space western." Whedon wanted to take the "next logical step" and extrapolated that China would become one of the world's superpowers in the not so distant future which is the reason for all of the Chinese/Asian influence. My favorite character is River.
I've seen commercials for it on Sci Fi, since my stepdad likes to watch stuff on that same channel, so I might look into watching it .
You should give it a shot, the series is absolutely fantastic. I didn't think the movie was quite as good though. (Hides under rock from ensuing mob of angry fans)
I love that episode it and bushwhacked would probably be my two favorites. Characters? My favorite 3 are Niska- He is just my type of twisted kinda like the joker from dark knight Walsh- His complete lack of a spine and wise cracks always make me laugh. Kalie- Because she is just a down to earth person who enjoys being herself and, being mechanicly inclined myself, I get the way she relates to the ship and the condition of the ship alters her mood.
"Actually I was fired from a fry cook opportunity." Lol I was thinking the same thing! I'm not so into broken crazy women anymore. Kalie wants to take care of everyone :>
I'm definitely a brown coat. It's hard to choose a favorite character. I really love River, Kaylee, Zoe and Mal. One of my favorite episodes. It's awesome.
Another Browncoat here as well. War Stories is probably my favourite episode although I haven't seen it for a while since the DVD got scratched 3 favourite characters though are Wash, Kaylee, and Book. Because how can you not love those three?
I love the scene where River is hiding from Book's hair. That, and the scene where River is dancing to some reel. Mal and Jayne are in a gun fight and Simon gets abducted . I think Bladerunner had a similar idea about Asian culture becoming dominant. I always thought that such a thing might happen in the future. There are so many Browncoats here!! Yay! ---------- Post added 8th Oct 2014 at 11:02 AM ---------- "Out of Gas" is definitely my favorite episode, but it is intense. I'd love to be like Mal, too! I think I'm more like Wash, though...:rolle: ---------- Post added 8th Oct 2014 at 11:07 AM ---------- I have to concur with River's hotness. I noticed your profile pic, Ophelia. I always thought Faith from Buffy was pretty hot, too. :icon_wink ---------- Post added 8th Oct 2014 at 11:12 AM ---------- The series is great. But as for Serenity . . . I will never forgive what happened to Wash. Ever. It was utterly unnecessary. :tears: ---------- Post added 8th Oct 2014 at 11:17 AM ---------- I'm going to the special hell.
