BBC News - Sweden to recognise Palestinian state (on another note, I'm pleased that Sweden has elected a centre-left government at a time when the Swedish right has worried me)
What is the left wings obsession in banging on about Palestine, a state that is controlled by a terrorist organisation.
Good for them, I suppose. Doesn't really matter until Israel recognizes it, however. And I don't see that happening any time soon...
Palestinians have a right to a state, but Hamas is not really the best government, since they are, in essence, a terrorist organization. But whether or not Israel would recognize Palestine if they had some other form of government is beyond me. As long as both sides think the other side wants to obliterate them (and they have thought that, at various times, maybe even do now), nothing good is ever going to happen.
Since you find "absolutely nothing" wrong with UKIP, it's unlikely that anybody on this forum could convince you that there's a humanitarian problem with the current situation the Palestinian people find themselves in.
No there is nothing wrong with a Eurosceptic and nationalist political party, not that you have evaluated their policies or spoke to their members in person with you being many miles away. A humanitarian crisis can be solved through people actually donating, but giving recognition to a terrorist group may not be sensible. Unless people sit down together and some kind of ceasefire can be kept and this terrorist organisation can use the force of democracy (like Sinn Fein did).
You should keep in mind that there is a difference between Palestine and Hamas. I don't know much about the political climate in Palestine, but I suspect that the popularity of Hamas is due almost entirely to the many social welfare programs. Anyway, by actually being recognized, perhaps the people of Palestine will stop looking towards such incendiary groups.
HAMAS Controls the Gaza Strip not the West Bank and they are shunned by just about every local government including the more stingy ones like the Arab nations
I'm no fan of Hamas - but it's ultimately the Palestinian people who are suffering most at the hands of the Israeli military. Israel is the one killing children by shelling Palestine to oblivion. Anyone who supports a country as vile as Israel and their actions - universally condemned - is probably not right in the head.
I support Israel. Not beacue of the shelling but because they arent the only ones being attacked. The Israeli defence system works by tracking where a rocket has been launched from and by immediately firing at that spot. they do try to avoid hitting places like schools and hospitals but thats hard when the people firing the rockets choose to do so from the roofs of schools and hospitals knowing that it will cause a stir. There are bad guys on both sides of this conflict and the fact that this is still going on shows a certain lack of compromise from all parties involved, I sympathise with Israel for constantly being shown as the bad guys just like i sympathise with the people being wrongfully evicted from homes or being killed by these stupid pissing contests. I do think that Israel should take a much more passive role that they have been, Its Israels job to rise above Hamas and show the world that they are the good guys. It also doesnt help that the civilians in the Gaza Strip elected HAMAs. Tbh the whole thing is a bloody mess
Good. Maybe if more countries started realizing that Palestine has a right to exist just as Israel does, the two may be able to finally start talking things out instead of just trying to nuke one another off the face of the planet. If this could promote peace, it's worth trying.
Good news. I'm also pleased to see the Social Democrats (+ partners) returned to power in Sweden. Was quite shocked when Sweden moved to the right.
My generally conservative cousins in Stockholm voted left this time because of that; they feared the right-wing swing was endangering Sweden's style of living, so they wanted to counter that.
