    Just a question:

What if a man and women consensually conceive a child. The father wants to raise the child and would give the child a loving home no matter what, but the mother changes her mind and decides she wants to abort the child for whatever reason (not health related).

I don't have an answer, but everyone seems to always argue the rape/health route, but what if there is simply a choice made independent knowing the baby would have a stable environment and nobodys life would be in danger?

While legal, I have an incredibly hard time finding this moral from the mothers perspective given her initial choice was to have the baby.

I really find it hard to believe that a woman would suddenly decide not to have the babby after such careful and decisive plan. Have you heard any cases like this? Whether health related or not, it is STILL the woman's choice. SHE is the one carrying the unborn child it is her choice to allow the child to remain there or refuse to allow the child to remain in her body.

    Pro-choice.

Killing a foetus which hasn't developed a nervous system yet and so can't feel pain, is better than allowing it to be born to parents who don't want, or weren't ready for it.

Even most pro-life people agree that it should only be used in cases of rape or incest, or if it poses a medical threat.
Ok, pregnancy only lasts nine months. Sorting out legal matters regarding this could very easily take long enough to make it too late. It's much more sensible to have it as an option available from the beginning.

In cases of mistakes... yes, they should have taken precautions. But do they deserve to be saddled with another person to feed and pay for, for years and years, just for one mistake? If you think so, you need to come off your high horse.

Saying "your parents chose life" is meaningless. That's the entire point. They CHOSE life. They had the choice and they were ready for it.

And yes, it SHOULD be entirely the woman's decision. She's the one who's going to be carrying the baby. The partner should have a say, but ultimately it should be her decision. She is the one who has to go through the most, by far, in case of a pregnancy.

As for this kind of topic, it's a given that the members of this forum are divided. To tell you frankly, I've been pretty ignorant about this issue back then and have only relied to my close-minded parents until I started to really question about it.

Let's just put it this way. A bun's not a bun until it comes out of the oven.

If I plant a seed, and after a couple weeks, I take it out, is that action the same as cutting down a tree?

    No one is encouraging abortion.

    Encouraging is this:

"You should really get an abortion."

What people are doing is this:

"People should have the right to have an abortion if they choose to."

    For the other on-going discussion:

I did research on this topic and I was strongly misinformed by some close minded family. I read about how early in the pregnancy the baby was aborted and the video I watched was a late trimester abortion which is rare and condemned. I change my stance on this. I personally am neutral maybe still a bit pro life, but for other people, I am pro choice.

(I mean, it's fine to be pro-life, but hey, when someone shares your opinion or at least apart of it, you gotta give them a high five)

Pro-choice, even if I'm morally against it.

Politically, I'm pro-choice. Morally, I'm also pro-choice except I think that late-term abortion is morally problematic.

    ---------- Post added 22nd Aug 2014 at 08:08 PM ----------

If someone considers abortion to be murder (I don't), this would sound to them like saying, "If you're against murder, then don't do one." The obvious problem with that statement is that murder is something you do to another person, and it's against their will.

The "If you don't like X, don't do X" suggestion is appropriate when all the participants of activity X are willing participants.
