Came across this interesting, yet controversial article regarding porn. It claims that porn is making a lot of us youngins virgins. Here's the link to the article: Why teenagers’ obsession with porn is creating a generation of 20-year-old virgins - Telegraph What are your thoughts on the matter? Do you agree? Disagree? Why?
No, but smart phones, texting, and technology in general is imo. Look at the reproduction/dating rates of the most technologically advanced societies. Porn is just porn. It's been around since the dawn of humanity and will remain until the very last human dies off.
Without the internet, I would've put far more effort into going outside and getting dates when I was in college. I think the internet in general is the culprit, not porn specifically. Also I think that the internet has raised people's expectations. Before, you had to date someone to learn anything about them. It was more trial and error. Now you already know everything about them when you start, so it's caused everyone to be picky.
Well the internet is to blame due to the increased accessibility. Like someone mentioned above, porn has been around for ages, even before modern technology.
i think the internet made me fat but dating wise, i'd be fucked with or without it because of the shy scared lesbian thing
The internet can be a great thing. You have access to information and can learn a lot without having to go to librarys, finding the right books etc. And, as seen on EC, there are often great answers given. I agree with a few points of the article. There is too much violence depicted. Saw a violent scene as a kid (on tv, so it was uninvited), could not get it out of my head for some time. Took me long to get a healty view on that, that its about love and both partners. You use your energy for fast release on glamorous pictures, instead of learning about relationships and making real love together. Which involves caressing, communication, sharing... ( great tutorials on lovingly partnerships can also be found on the internet... so its still possible to make up time... )
It's not going to be the sole cause. I can see how some people develop obsessions for porn and how that can mess about with their confidence in sexual and relationship terms, but to apply that so widely? I think that's overestimating the impact of porn. Most of us may love it, but there are plenty of us who understand it's not realistic, plenty of us who grow tired of images on screens and want a living breathing human instead of pixels and those of us who never held any interest anyway. Not every person who stumbles across porn is going to get fixated on it to the point they can't or won't function in real life. Also consider that someone's loneliness or lack of desire for a relationship might be the reason they watch porn, not the other way around. Internet, changing attitudes to relationships, dented self-esteem through marketing... I think it's a combination of many things, but porn isn't an overriding factor imo.
I'm not even sure what the article wants to say, really. It starts off mentioning 20-year old virgins as if everyone is supposed to have experienced a physical relationship at that age, then in the last part, it warns that porn might drive kids to seek sex earlier and earlier. Then it lists some vague, general teenage anxieties like "worried about what potential partners will think of me", and "I think I'll suck in bed" and links them to porn. Also, it lists how kids these days don't talk with their parents about their feelings or about sex. I'm not sure in what world the author grew up, but I'm fairly sure that kids 200 years ago weren't self-confident relationshippers at 16, casually discussing relationships and sex with their parents. So... while I do think porn can be dangerous if it isn't taken with a grain of salt and in moderation or by kids too young to watch it, I'm fairly sure the article is mostly scaremongering.
Internet is the answer. We don't need friends to socialize anymore: there are sites for that. Now, good (and not so great) conversations are one registration away.
No I don't think so I actually didn't want to have sex with guys and that's why I stated a virgin for so long because there was no attraction there . With women i just couldn't find any female that was lesbian or bisexual so I remained a virgin in 20's for a long time .
This is my current dilemma! Im 21 and still a virgin. I never had an attraction to girls, so nothing happened. Now that I'm out to myself, it's quite challenging finding the right guy! Porn really has nothing to do with it in my case.
If you asked me "Is porn making more sex addicts," my answer would be yes. But I don't believe for one second that there are that many people that prefer to whack off to porn and go and have sex with someone. It's a good substitute for when that someone isn't available, and I'll freely admit that I indulge in adult entertainment every now and again, however I don't believe that it's directly causing more people to stay virgins longer.
Same here I'm not a virgin anymore but I did the whole experimental thing to like not be lesbian anymore didn't work I'm kinda glad it didn't . But I can relate with you . On another note I know a boy that started watching porn since he was 5 .
Well I hate how 20 is considered old to be a virgin. Look at my age on the left - still not lost it :/
There is nothing wrong with that I hate how this generation keeps thinking it's bad to be a virgin at 20 I remember they were complaining about people leaving their virginity too early .
Right? I was teased at work today because everyone thinks (well, I guess they know) that I'm a virgin.
