I will hear this sometimes from some people I don't know if it's true or not but I don't like thinking my only purpose in life is to stop over population
I don't think they're saying it's our only purpose in life, they're just trying to make another argument in favor of homosexuality. A pretty damn good one, I must admit. And who else is going to deal with the millions and millions of unwanted children in the system?
I get annoyed with both the concept of global overpopulation and that people think they're being clever when they make that comment. I don't take it as a personal attack, but it's definitely a stupid comment.
We're supposed to stop over population? Silly me...I was thinking that we were to love our spouses. Welp...time to change my agenda for the rest of my life xD
While stating that "gays stop overpopulation" is incredibly oversimplified, the theory linking homosexuality and overpopulation is sound, and is being researched by evolutionary biologists.
I think it's some people trying to find some pseudo-scientific way to explain homosexuality. Like it really needs to be explained away......sheesh Happy days
Such a load of crap.... Reminds me of something I read how gay people are going to hell just cause aren't reproducing. How about all the straight people who choose not to have kids or just never get around to having any? They will come with 1000 excuses for our one which is we love each other
As an evolutionary theory I honestly don't mind it but when people don't understand what they're saying when they say this kind of stuff it really annoys me. I mean has anyone ever said that to a homophobe only for that homophobe to go "Oh my god you're right I don't hate gay people anymore XD" ?
It hasn't worked. I don't believe it, but I wouldn't be particularly unhappy about it. We would be maintainers of natural balance, and fuck knows we need some of that.
Yeah I hate it!! Even though I shouldn't I take it as a personal insult . Either way I feel like the whole point of humanity was to overcome our evolutionary instincts and to become something greater with the power of our brains. So such statements shouldn't mean anything anymore!
As theories go, I think it's actually one of my favourites. I agree that there doesn't need to be a reason for being LGBTIQ, but it's much better than "you must have been abused as a child" or "you had an over bearing mother" or "an absent father" or "you choose to be gay" or "you've been turned or influenced by your gay friends / family members".
You say it like it is a bad thing. To me, in most cases, humans are cancerous cells eating earth out, spreading fast and uncurable. Anything to slow us down seems a reason to cherish. Also for every child I didn't/won't have there are 20 abadoned by their straight parents...
People say all sorts of crazy things. I guess I am at the point where I just don't care about when crazy people say crazy things like this. Often you can't change their minds, so why worry about it. After all, you can't fix stupid. Even if it might be true in some cases, it certainly isn't true in all cases...
Doesn't bother me--and there's pretty decent science to support it at least in the animal kingdom. It never occurred to me to take it as an affront.
Truthfully I really like this reasoning. It's estimated that in 20 years that widespread hunger will be a real problem, even though it already is a real problem. I don't see a reason to be offended, but that's just me
I hardly think anyone has just one purpose in life, everything we say and do will effect other people, unless we live in a cave, far away from society. In response to the question, why do you think gay people were made like that, I've postulated that it's to provide loving families to the children that straight couples have and then discard. But not every gay person wants to have kids, so it's not like that could possibly be the only reason. Personally I believe that human sexuality is a spiritual gift of sorts, heterosexual, homosexual, or otherwise.
People saying that are obviously lacking a basic historical knowledge. Homosexuality has always existed throughout history, even when the world's population was at a low. It's not some "new thing" that suddenly popped up.
