Time. Time will fix your struggle..... But seriously I found writing out a schedule and forcing myself to stick to it helps
Ok for example Mon/Thurs 0700: Wake up 0715 to 0800: Brush teeth, shave, shower, get ready for school 0800 to 1400: School 1500 to 1700: Homework 1700 to 1800: Read personal books 1800 to 1900: Work out 1900:2100: Relax, watch TV, ect 2100 to 2200: Shower and wind down for bed 2200: Bed
I agree, scheduel does help. I was in some program in school that helped us be more organized, maybe you could find a similar one in your place? its like having a "perseonal couch" that helps u achieve your goals. I did my schedule on Outlook, for example I put in there half an hour to read some text, then I do a break for a while, and then another half an hour to do the h.w. related to that text. In the begining im not writing too much "TODO"s so I wont give up. EDIT: @Bibliophile - I would never be able to do 2 hours of h.w. straight! so as a start I suggest not to pressure yourself too much so u won't give up on it
Thank you i love ur suggetions ---------- Post added 16th Feb 2014 at 01:36 PM ---------- i love both of ur suggestions
Oh its two hours not because I need that much time. Frankly I usually only have an hour and a half of homework a night from college but I factor in two fifteen minute breaks so I give myself a block of two hours for it.
They key to this is just literally not letting yourself do anything else till you are done. Its a matter of forcing yourself to stick with it. Like I said I take two fifteen minute breaks within the two hours so I can relax my brain for a bit then get back to it. That helps a lot rather then trying to do the hour and a half straight.
Yes and no. I have Fridays and Sundays off from school so I dont do any work from Saturday at 3pm till Monday when I am back in school if I can help it. However if there is a paper due that needs a lot of work I will bend this rule. However you MUST make time for yourself at least one a week.
oh another thing I remember doing is rewarding myself - I would take 30 minutes for H.W. and then I gave myself an hour of playing the PC. I know, funny and strange, but it worked for me some times (depends how much H.W. u got ofc)
A schedule helps loads, as well as making a list of things. I have this erase board I got at Staples, it's split into days of the week. I write down whatever I have to do on mine, and the satisfaction of erasing something is better than anything. Telling people you're about to work does wonders too. Like just telling your sibling or someone online, "Be right back, I have to do ____." This might not be relevant to procrastination, but work as a whole. It's better to finish an entire assignment than do bits and pieces of many. Or if you're behind on something, you do the most recent work first and then focus on the work you're behind on.
I always made a list of all the assignments I had to do in a semester based off of the syllabus for my class. Each class was divided up into groups and would list when the assignment was due or the week that the reading needed to be done. At the top of the page, I listed the number of the week, 1-16, and the date range it covered. Each time I finished and assignment, I'd cross it off the list. Then, each Sunday, I'd update the word document and print out a new list.
Well, your day is going to revolve around what time your classes are. You shouldn't decide on how it is until you have a time table in your hands.
Being organized really helps. Going off that, get a planner and use it to help figure out what you need to get done. Also, if you are struggling getting work done, move all distractions. When I'm working on homework, I put my phone in another room, move all of my books out of the way and just get things done. Finally, get your blood moving between each thing you have to do. Go for a walk, run, get a snack, it doesn't matter. Just get some movement in.
