Never been to Michigan, but my first thoughts would be the bridge that links the two parts of the state and that it is probably sort of like Ontario. In that it has a cold lightly populated north and a highly populated south where most people live.
Isn't that where Chicago is? No wait that's in Illinois. Really, I have no idea. *Googles* OH of course, Detroit. Fascinating city, I'd love to go there some day to watch everything decay.
Motown music. The only reason I thought of this is because I saw an episode of American Idol where it was mentioned that Motown is/was prevalent in Detroit.

Not to mention, it was Michigan State that won the Rose Bowl this year, the oldest, biggest and best of all the college 'Bowl' games. At least our team doesn't have to play in some dumb 'lil bowl, like the 'Chick-Fil-A' Bowl, and all these new bowls out there!

We'll always have a better marching band, better stadium, NOBODY can have a better helmet, as well as a better play-by-play radio guy, and a better PA announcer with a golden voice. And above all, we'll always have a better tradition and a better all-time winning percentage, and more wins period, than everyone else in college football. This is one of the best marching band shows I've ever seen: And not to mention, a better entrance.
Your pride in your team is admirable. Aside from the subjective stuff, which just about everyone could claim to have, you don't actually have the highest winning percentage. That would go to Notre Dame.

My first thought is that I would really love to visit the Upper Peninsula. I heard it's gorgeous. Secondary thoughts are what you get out of an Alamanac, along with all the "Directional" Michigans, the Michigan (first thought - football), and Michigan State (first thought - basketball).
