That's amazingly powerful! I'm a big sports fan and I'm so glad to see the growing acceptance in the sports world, as slowly as it's coming. Also he's GORGEOUS but that's beside the point
I was really happy to read an article about this at work this morning. I know ideally this wouldn't be news at all, but I think athletes having the courage to come out will have an enormous impact on society. Kudos to Conner!
That's a good start. Few pro athletes and such now in college? Classy move by that organization on all sides.
I love college football, but I am in such disbelief we're in 2014 and only now do we see an openly gay player.
Off-topic kind of: The esteemed gentleman from Missouri would like to introduce a bill that says we shall recognize that football player Conner Mertens, is very attractive. On topic: this should probably help more LGBT collegiate athletes come out to their teammates and the public, seeing the majority positive response.
The gentleman from Michigan has introduced a joint resolution. This act shall be cited as "Conner Mertens' Boyfriend Is A Very Lucky Man Act. Whereas Conner Mertens is a very sexy guy and; Whereas Conner Mertens is taken and; Whereas the members of Empty Closets have seen the picture of him and; Whereas the members of Empty Closets do find Conner Mertens very attractive, Be it resolved by the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, Conner Mertens is sexy and his boyfriend is very lucky. All in favor, say aye.
yeah it's like 0/8000 in division I and none openly gay in basketball division I either, which is another 4000 or so. How is that possible? Pro career concerns and selfish coaches who are afraid it would hurt recruiting (baylor's coach pressuring brittney griner to not come out for this reason)
I'd really like to see an LGBT college basketball player. I think it's been done before in baseball and softball.
