With all the crap that goes on in the world and the bad news we get blasted into our heads each day, we often forget about the little things. What are some of yours? I'll start. Using a fresh razor to shave - so clean and smooth! Someone in the parking lot waited for me to get out of my car to tell me a brake light was out - fixed it before I ever got pulled over. Finding a quarter in the vending machine at work Taking a walk down my quiet country road on fall evenings Cherry cheesecake ice cream
having my hair silky smooth with small loose red curls the feeling of accomplishment after getting a new piercing having a bit of spare change being able to throw away all papers after finals poetry hugs spending a weekend in a cuddle puddle playing cards against humanity
enjoying time with my kids peanut butter looking forward to driving my new car beautiful men chocolate fondue laughing with friends
I am one day closer to being done with the giant paper of doom that is required of all third-year students in my program.
Ah, coins in the vending machine! It's weird, but I like finding a scab of dandruff after a really bad length of depression where I stop caring about my appearance. Maybe it's my dermatillomania. Remembering some candy or something that I forgot was in the house, I like that.
oh for a moment I thought you were at this youth group/ conference/ giant cuddle puddle with me It was very peace love and happiness
This. I hate when I crave something sweet to snack on and the stores are closed or I don't want to/can't leave out to get something... ...then all of a sudden I stumble on or remember I didn't finish my gummi bears or something. I become one happy camper, haha.
Taking a look outside... and realizing how beautiful the snow looks today. *turns back to computer and keeps typing anyway*
Getting into my 16-year-old car in the driveway at 6:30 am, 5 degrees below zero, and it starts up without any hesitation whatsoever. Nailing the tenor line of a difficult piece. When my 12-year-old randomly quotes funny lines from The Thin Man that I showed her on YouTube many months ago. Sitting on the sofa and having our old dog (who never really bonded with me) jump up next to me and put his head on my knee. When my daughter calls the younger dog over and over and over and she never comes, so I say softly "Here, puppy" without even looking at her--and she RUNS to me. When the management review meeting is cancelled on the same day I was supposed to talk about something my team really screwed up. Catching a glimpse of that beautiful red fox that sneaks around the neighborhood. Walking into the house after a long walk in cold weather and smelling freshly brewed coffee. And so very many other things!!!!
Little things that light up my day: my 16 yr. old son giving me a hug and a kiss...for no reason his asking me to watch the hockey game in his room my 10 yr. old daughter's smile after her flute recital when she makes me another friendship bracelet when she and I sing "Popular" from "Wicked" when my 19 yr old daughter puts gas in the car or buys me a cup of coffee at Starbucks despite how angry she is at me with 'coming out', I still get a phone call from my wife to be safe cause the roads are bad the chickadees that eat out of my hand from the woods out back I am still my my Westie's hero When a student asks you to be his mentor Warm socks out of the dryer knowing that under the snow one morning there'll be tulips poking up through the mud when Harry, the cat. sneaks into my bed and sleeps with the Westie and me a bowl of matzah ball soup on a super cold day
This list is so disparate haha. All ordinary things lots of people do frequently and then just out of the blue "beautiful men"
Finding new pictures of one of my favorite lead singers of a band. He's like my idol c: Also, new music to listen to.
Walking home from school in the snow and listening to Queen Sitting so close to somebody you can feel their heartbeat or when they breath Hugs When I find something I haven't seen in a while Finding a penny on the ground Having my favorite food in the house Good hair days or days where my hair when tied back looks perfect Reading a great book whenever you have the time Anything warm (blankets, hot drinks, etc.)
Things that are warm My morning cup of coffee Oatmeal Dancing in the aisles at Walmart when no one's around My husband scooping me up in the middle of the night while I'm asleep to spoon me, even though it makes it kind of hard to get back to sleep Silly jokes Looking down and seeing this seriously badass tattoo on my arm Learning something Having an idea for a piece of art Seeing a great piece of art Hearing a song on the radio that I haven't heard before Being able to watch the sun rise as I drive to work
Bubble baths, with lavendar essential oil and candle light. Treating myself to hair products- the good stuff that makes it feel like silk. Raspberries straight from the garden. And also peas. Driving over a sudden bump in the road that makes my tummy flip! When my baby smiles, and her eyes crinkle at the side. Fresh shaved legs. Holding hands. So simple, so easy, and what a statement! Swimming. Falling asleep in weird places. Like on the sidewalk in front of my house. Water with ice cubes.
Waking up in the middle of the night, being afraid to look at the clock (I usually wake up about a minute before my alarm is set to go off), and finding out you have another four or five hours of sleep.
Getting to drive fast! Chocolate mint ice cream. <3 Cars in opposing traffic that turn off their high beams for you. Not having homework. Cuddles. Finding a good movie on Netflix. Picking out the perfect outfit. Getting only green traffic lights. Waking up right before you alarm clock goes off. Finding a new favorite song. Anddd I'll leave it at that.
Shopping at Target on a cold day with a cup of hot chocolate in my hand. Finding out what you were going to buy anyways is on sale. My dog deciding to cuddle at my feet. Going to Walmart in the middle of the night for something you need and finding no lines at the cash registers.
