Hyped and waiting for the PS Vita re-release of X and X-2. I've always wanted the international version of X and I'm glad they're making it available in the US region. From what I've seen, and a few others have been thinking, 15 looks amazing so far, and hopefully it's the one that dethrones 7 as "best game ever".
Looks alright but it does have a whiff of Duke Nukem Forever about it. A game that's been in development for that long, had that much money thrown at it and been hyped to the moon will never live up to expectations. I hope it's a good 'un and it sells truckloads as a result but I do worry that Nomura will continue this relentless drive to make FF more appealing to the COD crowd. It'd be funny to see if anyone tries to organise a serious boycott of the game because it's gone multiformat instead of PS3 only. Worst case scenario we get some gravity defying host hair to admire. :eusa_danc
I'm old school in terms of traditional JRPG but grinding for grinding sake without any updates to gameplay or a gripping story makes me like things that are more active and "COD like" to spice things up. I think the issue with the final fantasy series many fans either love or hate is that it is generally only related in name and tropes such as Cid and Chocobos and Crystals. The transition between gameplay styles only works with some and not others and is why the series is so polarizing.
Oh yeah I don't mind making the battle more interactive, I draw the line at just how corridor like the whole FF experience seems to be these days. Granted I know you get to run around freely around 3/4s of the way through an FF game but it still seems old hat when compared to stuff like Skyrim and Fallout. I think 12 was a real step in the right direction in terms of making the games more open ended, so it baffles me why they'd go back to the old linear style and then somehow make it even more linear.
Oh, yes the last two entries have been very linear until the last quarter of the game. 12 was a successful attempt to make an "offline mmo". Was great, except the story SUCKED. It wasn't character centric. Endearing characters is what made 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10 so appealing to me (aside from gameplay).
Makes sense, the Final Fantasy games are all about playing around the dynamics of the game between each new release. I personally enjoy that because it gives each game something completely unique.
I think in terms of stories 10, 7, and 6 probably did the best job. Especially 10, that game had a beautiful story interwoven into the game.
as far as ranking my faves: Favorites: Spoiler VII VI IX V XII X Liked: Spoiler VIII II III I Were okay: Spoiler IV (lack of interesting characters, with a few exceptions; almost nobody died for good, not particularly engaging) XIII (Characters could be more interesting and original, absolutely linear gameplay) and yes, despite its few good points, I just put IV near the bottom of my list. However good it may have been when it came out, I think the others were better. Not that I thought any were really bad; some were just not as good as the rest. as far as sequels, spin-offs, and gaiden, I'll mention that I liked 4 Heroes of Light, Dissidia, and even Crisis Core. FFT beats almost every other FF game though, except maybe VI and VII. I thought it was marketed far too much for girls, and not enough for gamers. I hated how they changed Rikku's design, but I liked Paine. Yuna changed a bit too much, too... though you can't expect her to just hang around and mope for the rest of her life, I guess. The music was fairly bad (one magazine review likened the music to leftover or rejected 70's porn music), and using the word "score" instead of "obtained" when getting items bugged me, like when ad agencies try to be hip. There were certainly some good aspects, like being able to jump over certain obstacles to get to certain treasures, but the battle system was pretty much the only thing I thought was great. In all, I'd have been much happier if they didn't try to girl it up just because the main characters were girls, and though it probably would have taken a lot longer, I'd rather they made it a new game (including new characters and new world) rather than a sequel. In short, it was enjoyable, but not awesome.
I love the Fire Emblem games ---------- Post added 24th Dec 2013 at 12:15 PM ---------- That's a pretty fair summary. I didn't pay too much attention to the music myself though. I just enjoyed the game for the most part
Warsong, AMAZING srpg. Fire emblem and shining force are good too, but Warsong is so unique how it uses terrain and probability and shows little armies clashing. I loved it.
I read a review before I got it, so I may have focused too much on the negative parts... But yes, it was enjoyable
Totally love final fantasy! 7, 9, and 10, and 6 are all number one in my book ^^ But 7 is probably my fave, its the first one I played and is just total nostalgia for me. I also loved playing Crystal Chronicels as a kid, but never had anyone to play with... 12 is really fun too, despite how lost I am on the plot XD I loved the story of 13 a lot, debating on if I'll play 13-2, and probably won't even give 13-3 any thought lols. I DID own FF14 ARR for three days, but I didn't play it at all because I noticed there was a monthly subscription fee, aaaaand, that wasn't happening lolols. So I took it back, got a full refund, bought Borderlands 2 and pocketed the other 20 bucks (And, I totally hate to get off topic, but The World Ends With You is probably one of Square Enix's best works ^^)
