I'm just really curious to know what celebrities out there give you hope and enthusiasm for the future and present for when you want to express who you really are?:eusa_danc

For me George Takei is just one of many whom I love.:icon_bigg

Ones that don't go on the lecture circuit after coming out and stop being celebrities. I'm joking! One person that has disappointed me is Billy Bean, the ex-baseball player who came out and went from being a regular guy type, a la Alan Gendreau, to getting a little cheesy, like this. Note that there are 2 Bill Beans associated with professional baseball and they are also about the same age.

    Compared to this look:

I generally don't look up to celebrities, except for those with acting or performing talent, and only for the talent. While Ellen is likable, she is supposedly also a comedienne. I try real hard, but she has not said anything that has made me laugh yet. So I can't think of anyone who is an inspiration. I am inspired by more ordinary people I actually come into contact with.

Ellen. I saw her come out on Oprah when I was in high school. It meant a lot to me. I love her show too.

Stephen Fry, Ellen Degeneres, Josh Thomas, George Takei ummm.....dammit I had another one (although if I forgot they probably didn't inspire me as much as the others).

Chris Crocker. He's a pioneer for gender benders and it takes fortitude to do what he does.

    An openly transgendered celebrity -

I've just come from a brilliant performance by Fascinating Aida and they have just performed 'Adele's Song' - a song about the experience of one of the group, Adele Anderson, who is transgendered. The group said that the song took ten years to write and perfect before they felt it was the right time to perform it and this is apparently the first tour they've ever performed it on. The song was brilliant and talked about her transformation but also branched out into themes of being 'different' in any way. I felt it was the perfect balance between humorous (the group's main style) but also very honest about her experience. Following the song, the audience (comprised mainly of people 50 or older) burst into thunderous applause. It was a really inspiring moment and not one that I was expecting out of the evening.

(They were also absolutely hilarious and very clever!)

Me too. Someone linked to his coming-out video, and from there I watched other teens' coming-out videos, and thought to myself "if they can do it as teenagers why can't I do it as an adult?"

Yes it takes fortitude and I respect him for that, but there are much better role models. :/

Nobody for Ian McKellan? Nobody can dare say a bad word about him.

Some of you may not know Ray Boltz. He's a prolific gospel singer that came out as gay a couple of years ago. He received a lot of flak from the Christian community. He has also received a lot of support from the gay community and gay Christians. I love his album, True, which expresses his feelings of coming out.

No, I don't know of him. However, it's sad that he got push back and it's good that he received support.

I found his coming out video a few nights after I came out for the first time (a few weeks after he did so) and proceeded to watch it five times in a row. Generally before I go to bed, I watch it as it's become almost therapeutic to hear him talk about such a topic and be so confident in doing so.

Huh, I can't really think of any, offhand. I guess I'm not very much into mainstream 'celebrities', and don't pay a whole lot of attention to the sexuality of the authors, musicians, artists, architects and what not that I do like, who might be gay.
