Somehting occured to me....well months ago but hit me again today This is not calling anyone out by any means but I notice especially on a certain forum I frequent that there is a sickening hypocrisy and here is how it goes "It's so sad how Democrats spin stories to cover their asses! It's like the think Obama is never wrong" or...if you prefer the other flavor "It's so sad how Republicans spin stories to cover their asses! It's like the think Bush is never wrong" This is what I see ALL the time and it frustrates me to no end. both sides of this playing field seem to think that the other side is the only side who are hypocritical. Well guess what, Republicans talked about how perfect Bush was and Democrats talk about how perfect Obama is. It happens on EACH FRICKIN SIDE! Gah this just kills me...maybe I am overboard on it but it's a major pet peeve for me...and actually it goes towards darn near any argument Pro Life vs Pro Choice Atheist vs Religious blah blah maybe if people slowed down and looked in their mirror before spitting at the other side they'd see the same person staring back at them that they accuse -deep breath- Foxface
I think that they're essentially the same party in most things, and the abortion/gay rights stances are just facades to hide the lack of any substance but corporatism due to corporate donations (which are more accurately described as bribery).
It's harder to have actual communication and solutions than say the other party is a bunch of doo-doo heads. So that's what they do. On the whole, I don't think politicians are worthy of a lick of respect. If they do their jobs well, I'll congratulate them, but never free them from my suspicion. The people in the world who are truly good, generous, selfless souls usually don't cut it in politics (or at least choose not to go that way).
As that's just politics. People who are emotionally attached to a political party on see the sins committed by those who they oppose.
A lot of people in America these days are blindly devoted to their party. I bet a stereotypical Republican would vote for a scarily liberal feminazi if they had an "R" next to their name. And a stereotypical Democrat would vote for a scarily dogmatic homophobe if they had a "D" next to it!
What Americans need to realize is that this bipartite system can not go on. If this were Europe, the Democratic party alone would be four different parties. The fact of the matter is, American politicians aren’t very good at their jobs because they have pressure from different parts of the same party, all of whom have different political agendas. The same thing goes for the Republicans. You have moderate republicans just like you have tea party republicans. And the fact everyone is trying to get their own agenda done, it makes for bedlam. At the very least, there should be 4 major political parties.
^^It's because it has generally been decided that compromise is acceptable if it means your group gains more power. Which is awful. It's basically "I don't care if my gun doesn't have a sight on it, as long as it's twice the size of my old one! There used to be more contending parties, but they've all been eaten up. So now both major parties are hideous monstrosities who hold all the cards, but stand for nothing.
This is what happens when most Americans fixate themselves on only two parties existing. Like, a third option is impossible in their head or something lol. Yeah... xD It's even more hilarious, I think, to a foreigner?
I vote for the person not the party. I think the libertarian party may gain many more followers. It's conservative in foreign policy and more liberal on domestic issues. Any other libertarians on here?
It's not just in political situations, you often get similar lines of reasoning (or lack thereof) with fans of pro sports (oh you're a **** fan, you suck), hardcore religious people (oh we must convert them otherwise they're going to hell), employees of rival companies in highly competitive markets, Windows vs Mac, nowadays Android vs iOS, the list goes on. Don't bother evaluating the actual specific topic at hand, just bash them 'cause they're from "the other side" and therefore are wrong on 100% because our side is right on everything... really sad, and scary in some cases...
I fined both of the major parties too conservative for me, though I vote Democratic because they come closer to my views on social issues. But I'd support candidates who: -want to legalize gay marriage -seek to legalize marijuana -seek to keep abortion safe and legal -work to find ways to close the gap between rich and poor -support taxing the wealthiest 5% to a greater extent, and closing loopholes for the wealthy -support a single-payer health and dental care system, similar to Canada and the UK -support major military cuts -support more spending on education and the arts -seek to stop fracking, protect our air and water, and work for a cleaner environment, while cracking down on polluters -support better mass transit and high speed rail -seek to end the 'war on drugs' -are dedicated to breaking the deeply-rooted cycles of urban poverty (and rural) -dedicated to not just blindly supporting Israel ...but so much of this, I just don't see, so I vote Democratic because they're closer.
combined with media sensationalism that pushes public to vote/decide on certain issues, this is gonna take a while for people to stop seeing things as binary lol
The problem is people are generally incapable of thinking for themselves in America. It truly is scary how uninformed this country is on public policy and politics as a whole. One of the biggest (if not the biggest) problems in this country is lack of education.
