A few of my friends have recently been talking about work out routines and gaining weight a lot. We always have this disagreement over what body type looks best, and what body we'd like to have. Of course it's down to opinion, though personally I'd like to have a stocky build... or so I thought. Now I can't decide what I'd like to have, and I was wondering what older gay guys prefer in their partners: muscular or stocky?

    I wouldn't mind both

Athletic! Think a swimmer's build, which is muscular but it's not bodybuilder-esque.

I voted other. I really don't like my men to be very muscular or stocky. I mean, to each his own, but for me there's nothing like a guy with a swimmer's build, lean but with some muscles in the right places, now that is hot!

Yes! Swimmer's build, like the others are saying. That is the perfect way to describe it. Muscle is hot, yeah, but too much of it (like John Cena, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc) is just a turn off. Though, the biggest turn off for me is too heavy/too skinny.

I personally like my guys to be stocky, but I personally would like to have a bit of a swimmer's build.
I'm relatively thin as it is, so I just need to work out more.

A combo of both. A dude with some muscle on him yet he's a little chubby at the same time, makes me go fucking crazy.

I gotta admit, I'm a bit of a muscle queen, though I myself am bone-thin . I wouldn't mind if a guy was on the stocky side, but normally, I'm into really muscular guys.

Yeah, I am into muscle guys. I've spent years in the gym myself and love a lot of muscle on a man. Something just shy of body builder..

I like slightly muscular, but even the swimmer-type body isn't my favourite. I like an average guy with muscles that are just slightly defined. I actually don't like six-packs; I prefer them to be covered in just a little fat.

I think my best option would be to go for a quite muscular build myself, not anything bodybuilder-esqe like someone mentioned earlier, but at least toned. I really don't see what is so appealing about it, though I'm sure there are more who say the same in regards to more stockier builds. A more physical build would mean a healthier life style, then if I feel like, at any time, that I no longer desire to have that I could easily let myself go. Personally I prefer "average" if that's a thing, but leaning a lot more towards stocky.

I don't care that much for body types, but if I had to choose.. neither. Both are too.. big. Athletic/fit would be the ideal build. Like I said, though, it really doesn't matter.

I am curious by what you mean when you differentiate 'muscular' and 'stocky' though. Are you defining stocky as muscular with a higher percentage of bodyfat? Or is it muscular but with different proportions (a smaller shoulder to waist ratio for example)?

Stocky usually refers to proportions, meaning you are wide compared to your height. Muscular is if you have big muscles.

Personally I like skinny guys best.

Well that's more determined by genetics rather than anything you can do at the gym.

I find gymnast's sexy. Their muscles are in proportion with their body's. Some swimmer's look good but many are too slender.

I like thin/skinny best. I've never cared for the muscular look, too macho for me. About the only muscular 'guys' I ever had a crush on were the TMNTs, if that counts.

That's exactly what I meant to say. "Muscular" and "stocky" are not exactly comparable because you can have both.
