So, in one way or another, I am going to get a Ring of Power inscription tattoo. I can't decide between two different types of placements though, so I was wondering if I could get any opinions - As you should know (since of course you are all dedicated nerds right :lol, this is the inscription What I'm trying to decide - put it as a band somewhere on my forearm? (In this case, probably either 3/4ths the way up or around my wrist - guess that's another thing to decide). In other words take the inscription and wrap it around the arm. or, Just take the inscription and put it as a block on my forearm. Probably bigger and easier to read (everyone knows the language of Mordor of course? ). Would possibly look more like something I just wrote on my arm though. I'm honestly at a draw between the two. Thoughts anyone?
AHH! I LOVE IT!!!!!! The ring around the forearm would be cool but for some reason I like the idea of the block better. What if you become a living "ring" and accidentally bind Sauron to your forearm? Would you cast yourself into the fires of Mount Doom to save us all? Just kidding. Love the idea
I was kinda hoping Sauron would have been forever killed off at the end of the Third Age and I could just be eternally invisible.
Forearm sounds great. Just make sure the translation is accurate. I considered doing a foreign language tattoo, but I'm worried it will come out dead wrong.
That inscription is sexy no matter where you put it. However, make sure the tattoo artist doesn't do it upside-down. It's happened at least once.
Lol, probably just flattered I'd say, because it's the only bit most people have ever seen written in Tengwar. Isn't it the most beautiful alphabet ever created though? I mean, Tolkien basically used all his knowledge of real languages and writing systems and said "How about I make one that is purely awesomesauce?" <<That may have been paraphrased XD but I think he was 100% successful.
He refused to drink out of a goblet someone gave to him because it had the black speech on it - he certainly wouldn't like it being tattooed on someone . I personally would stick with the Tengwar but change the words, but of course you can do whatever you like.
I'm not really into tattoos much, I just don't like the idea of permanently inking my body I guess. Plus I don't really like the way most look.. Nothing against those who have them though
I have a tattoo on my arm right above my wrist... it has cause major issues when it comes to employment. I have to wear long sleeves in the dead of Summer. It sucks. So when thinking placement, think long term. You never know if you're employer is going to want you to cover that up. Otherwise, I think it's a great idea
Band around your arm seems much more fitting, in my opinion. Or, if you make it really tiny text around your ring finger?
Thanks for the input guys! Fortunately he's not around to criticize me for it. Or are you legitimately worried that I may damn my soul and bar it from entering some magical realm of happiness? That's definitely a concern of mine. I hadn't thought of employers later realizing you had one and making you adjust, though. Figured I'd just wear long sleeves for interviews and go from there. That and wait for the baby-boomers to die off and/or leave the workforce entirely. Anyways, maybe I should stay away from the wrist at the very least then, perhaps... My hopes are up for the attitudes changing, maybe even faster than I originally thought - a good 10% or so of people were inked in the last professional environment I visited (engineering though - more tolerant of eccentricity, perhaps?) I would really[/I] like to do that, actually - but as Sky noted it's risking a lot with employers, and that one would be particularly visible. Not really what my question was about.
