I saw someone post this on Facebook and thought I'd create a thread about it. I'm not too sure of the validity of the group (and news it provides); however, being Russia, it would not really surprise me... https://sites.google.com/a/spectrum...sonvideolocallawenforcementcondoneshomophobia
Russia is almost as bad as Uganda now. I think we should have a movement to kick out Russian Oligarchs from the UK and Ireland
In another thread there was talk of not boycotting the Olympics because it could ruin the dreams of some Olympians and I agreed it wouldn't be fair to them. But now that this has happened...I just don't know anymore.
Let them move it to a friendlier country. I hear Canada is nice that time of year.. And every other time as well. Putin needs to get shot.
The Soviet Union is beside the point. This is why Putin shouldn't have been put into office. We knew this was gonna happen. Even if you didn't really think so, you still had it floating around in the back of your mind.
*put back into office. Tbh this is just the tip of the iceberg that is to come. It's truly shocking and disgusting to say the least. Looks like I'll no longer be going to St. Petersburg anymore :tears: I'm surprised that homosexuality is still legal with all this going on
What's happening in Russia is astonishing and it's even beyond the LGBT issues there. They've literally turned Russia back into dictatorship. Seriously. Putin has a stranglehold on that nation. He ruled for his two terms, became Prime Minister (though the President was clearly doing whatever Putin wanted) and now they've abolished term-limits for the Presidency. He can, in theory, be President for life. There isn't much hope left for the LGBT folks there. At this point it's either get out or face the danger head on. It's truly terrifying.
FTFY. You might as well just call the position a dictator, since that's really what that is. It's exactly why our Founding Fathers had a limit on presidency.
The founding fathers get way too much credit for stuff. ln this case, they didn't do any such thing. Term limits came about in the mid-twentieth century, after FDR died in his fourth term.
That became a generally adhered to tradition, but not a rule. FDR did get flack for bucking it, and that's part of why an amendment added term limits after he died.
Ah, okay. Thanks for clearing that up. My knowledge on it due to shitty education was really hazy and vague, so I wasn't entirely sure.
It's sad...movies like Anastasia (yeah I know...Disney lol) made me want to visit St. Petersburg some day. Now until the U.N. finally steps in (which I almost feel could happen...I find it hard to believe they're just going to keep sitting on their asses), I will never step foot into Russia. Not if it means I have a chance of being hurt, kidnapped or killed...
