So, as the title says, what are they? For example, mine are: an accessible system of public care (health, schools, general welfare, free legal support for the poor), a moderately regulated market, constitutional monarchy, non-binding parties (so politicians aren't punished for voting their mind), and environmental conservation. So what do you believe in?
A few things I believe in: 1. A moderately regulated market. 2. More gun control. 3. Campaign fiance rules. 4. Abortion - I'm not quite sure, but I'm starting to lean toward pro-choice except for certain situations. 5. In favor of a complete reform of our education system; it's a disaster. 6. Partial privatization of Social Security. 7. An overall reduction in entitlement and military spending. 8. A slight increase of taxes on the wealthy. 9. Against Obamacare. 10. Gay marriage - I think it's pretty apparent what I believe in. I consider myself a moderate Republican or independent, although some on this site think I'm some hardcore conservative. Go figure.
I think the Scandinavian countries have the right idea as far as economic policy goes. Their social policy is also generally pretty decent, though they do have some issues with immigration and treatment of immigrants. I would like to see fairly heavily regulated markets with smart individual rights (e.g. more gun control, because the right to own guns tends to conflict with the right to not be shot, but legalization of most if not all drugs, because you don't hurt anyone but yourself with them). I am in favor of environmental protection, animal rights, universal health care, legalization of same-sex marriage and abortion, and other typical leftist ideas. Also, something has to be done about patent rights. I don't think there's a single country in the world where the patent system actually makes sense. In short, my political beliefs are pretty much in line with democratic socialism.
I am conservative I think at least my family Is. My father says if we were American we would be republican.
Well I call myself a democrat, which is pretty rare down here in Arkansas. I believe in legalization of gay marraige (obviously), legalization of marijuana (I personally don't and never will use it, but it seems pretty harmless and I think there would be less crimes if people could obtain it legally), environmental protection, and animal rights. I'm kind of in between on gun control, though, leaning more towards not having it. I definitely don't think guns should be illegal though. If they're made illegal, it's only us who won't have them. Criminals will still obtain them illegally and we will be left defenseless. When it comes to schools, rather than having them a gun free zone and keeping guns from the general public, I think teachers should be allowed and encouraged to carry guns in the school. There was actually an elementary/primary school near me where a person with a gun came in and started trying to start a school shooting, but the principle pulled out a handgun and chased him off, saving the lives of a lot of kids. But I do think that limited background checks would be a good idea. By that I basically just mean criminal records. I mean, it's just common sense. Let's not give the released murderer access to an assault rifle. Do I think that it would be fair to base the checks off of anything other than a few types of criminal offenses? No. Not even mental background checks seems fair to me. As for abortion, I think it's morally wrong. I don't think there is any reason to get an abortion except in the case of medical issues. I'm pro-life, but I don't really have any political views on the matter. Even though I think it's wrong, I wouldn't vote for or against it.
I believe in... 1. Marriage Equality for all 2. Better gun control, but civilians should still have access to guns. (Stricter background checks) 3. Some Separation of Church and State. 4. Abortion, however with certain requirements such as rape, or it's putting the mom to health risk. 5. Embryonic stem cell research, it's more productive than umbilical cord. 6. Higher taxes for the wealthy (they make more money, they should pay more taxes) 7. Amnesty for illegal immigrants. (When they are illegal, there's a good reason for it) 8. Better healthcare. 9. Alternative energy sources, such as biomass, solar power, nuclear energy etc. 10. Less military spending please! I'm a Democrat. I'm more on the hardcore democratic side except that I'm pro-gun.
Libertarian. Fiscally conservative. Socially do whatever the hell you want. Minimize intervention in foreign countries. For the most part. There are exceptions to everything but generally that's where I stand.
I myself believe in the following: - A true single-payer/universal healthcare system in the United States (Medicare for all), while Obamacare does have some things right in regards to banning refusal of coverage because of pre-existing conditions and allowing younger people to remain on their parents' health plans until age 26. I do not think it goes far enough to be honest, the US is the last industrialized nation to have such a primitive health system in terms of possible bankrupting some because they come down with cancer, or who require open heart operation - Reduced military spending, we do NOT need military bases in Germany for example in this post Cold War world! Also bring all our and other nations' remaining people from the Iraq/Afganistan conflict home!! - I do support Gun Rights, while there definitely should be regulations as to who can access weapons, I don't believe assault rifles should be banned. The sane (keyword: sane) populace should have the right to be armed in the event of a tyrannical government in this country (which really has not happened yet, but you never know in the future), as well as to be able to defend oneself against criminals. But do note, I 100 percent support background checks and waiting periods, including for gun shows and other loopholes where this could be passed by...also severe penalties for those who sell guns "under the table" -A strong "safety net" for those who find themselves in hard times. Reforms should be taken to prevent so called "freeloaders" from taking advantage of the system. For example, here in Wisconsin there has been a problem with some selling food stamps on Facebook to escape the regulation that stipulates that only food and necessities be purchased with these funds and not alcohol/cigarettes. Also there has been a huge fraud on state subsidies to daycares in this state going to individuals who've never watched a child in their life. But I feel if this were curtailed, there would be more funds for the unemployed and those truly down on their luck, as well as suffering single mothers and low-income families who truly wish to work and help themselves. I feel society should help them, as first and foremost as compassionate human beings and second for the greater good. -I also very strongly support workers rights. Here in Wisconsin our governor has pretty much crapped on public sector unions (Except for his donors in the Police and Fire Unions). I myself am a union member and while I know unions do have to protect subpar workers (as a steward I lamented this, but still did my duty) and are sometimes more political than they should be... they overall do more good than harm I believe. I am a hard worker and have been a victim of bad management in the past taking the piss and because of my union was able to fight back and prevail over it. Even with certain rules and procedures in the workplace, workers are able to accomplish more fighting as a group than as an individual. With the economy the way it is today, workers must unionize even more than before I think, with some companies raking in greater profits, many workers are left in the dust in terms of raises and many are still having benefits cut, while CEO's get raises.. -Of course Gay Marriage legal throughout the entire US, along with ALL the benefits/rights straight couples have.... that one is very, very obvious Also, there are more things I believe, but I think my post was long enough and maybe I'll say more later lolol
Im a registered Green Party member. But more and more Ive had less interest in politics. I just find it frustrating anymore to be honest.
Off topic, but there shouldn't be a 15 minute limit to editing posts. I just realized I misspelled the word "finance." :eusa_doh:
Involvement in the government, including voting, should be allowed only after one passes a test on the law, foreign policy, and the various aspects of their local, state, and federal government. (90% + to pass) Most politicians are not to be trusted with anything. Also, the Republican and Democratic parties here in the United States are filled with uncompromising extremists (relatively speaking).
Feminism is a broad spectrum of beliefs united by a goal of achieving equality for women, so I don't really get how it can be described as a singular political view, but I think that Feminism is one of the greatest movements in politics ever.
I'm frustrated with politics in Canada, to be honest, and currently I feel apathetic yet hopeful that necessary change will ever happen in this country. I support environmental research and more concern given to protecting the environment. I support universally accessible childcare for everyone in Canada, and higher wages on average for Early Childhood Educators. I support more funding for the public education (which needs some serious reform/revolutionary changes) and health care system and fair wages for everyone in Canada, no matter where they work. That includes government employees and sports players (no matter how you look at it, you don't need to make as much as they make per year). I support an increase in social assistance and changes in the application process so people aren't abusing the system - I myself am currently on disability assistance (through no fault of mine) and it's barely enough to live off on. The rental portion, which is a ridiculously low amount, is three hundred and seventy five dollars - and there's no way anyone is going to find a decent place to live in for that much. I also support policies that express concern and that implement a plan to aid other countries who are struggling economically - I believe in a global community where everyone matters and has something to contribute to global society, and countries doing better than others need to give each other a hand up. There's more to my political beliefs than this, and I have no idea where this puts me on the current political spectrum in Canada lol
1) Pro Marriage Equality. (duh) 2) Pro Choice (I don't approve of abortion as a contraceptive, but I would never allow myself to tell a woman what she could or couldn't do with her body) 3) Pro Gun Control. (I don't want to take your guns from you. I just think that you should have to re-register your guns every year, and background checks should always be done when selling a gun) 4) Pro Separation of Church and State. (The only reason we started to put God in the government was to prove we weren't communists.) 5) Pro raising taxes on the wealthy. (The wealthy should have to pay at least as much, if not more than people just scraping by, no matter how they come in to their money) 6) Pro Obamacare. (If government officials get healthcare for life, why shouldn't it be required of all citizens?) 7) Pro military spending cuts. (We spend the most on our military. In second is china, who we outspend in a 6 to 1 ratio.) 8) Pro environment. (I would like my kids to have a planet. Green energy is good.) 9) Anti illegal immigration. (With exceptions to children brought over when they were dependent on their family. We do however need to overhaul the system and make it easier for immigration through proper channels.) 10) A huge portion of our laws need to be changed. Certain things should have heavier penalties and longer lasting Statue of Limitations (Rape being a prime example.) However, certain things also need to have penalties lessened (Drugs are treated wrong here.) 11) Welfare needs to be fixed. But I don't think drug tests for everyone would be practical. (It would end up costing more money than it saves.) I consider myself a rather staunch Liberal. Most of my ideologies go along with the Democrats. I like a few Republican ideas, but they need to be tinkered with.
I think that most political concepts hold their water as long as everyone is on board with said concepts. That's why small, homogeneous societies work so well generally. I don't know what the answer is for large, heterogeneous societies, and I tend to distrust anyone who claims to have the answer. I feel confident in saying that I think I'll come out favorably no matter what the societal structure is, so I try to decide what my vote is based on what is best for marginalized minorities and the environment.
I celebrate and sing myself~ I'm an anarchist, but you can call me a libertarian if you like. (*hug*)
