Especially how same sex attraction is formed. I hope this is the right section of the forum for this kind of question. I've been trying to find studies about homosexuality but every one of them was about how many percentage of people admitted to having these feelings and what age group they were in. And it's best if I don't even mention what the last page I've been directed to said on the topic... It might be just me but it feels like there are no proper studies or explanations about it. If you know any good websites/pages that are worth reading, could you please post them here?
Could something like this be what you are looking for? Scientists claim that homosexuality is not genetic
Do you have access to an academic journal search engine of any kind? (You likely do if enrolled in a university). Very fun and useful. If not just google "Swaab studies," would be my suggestion .
This is really useful. I'm having a big discussion with one of my Christian friends about it at the moment. Anybody got any more?
Well there are a few documentaries that can be found on Youtube about Homosexuality. For example, this short 5 minutes cartoon is an excerpt from "Because the Bible tells me so". Is Homosexuality A Choice? (Educational Cartoon) - YouTube
The book "Gay, Straight and the Reason Why - The Science of Sexual Orientation" by Simon LeVay might be of interest to you. It was published in 2011; so it is hopefully not that outdated.
It depends on what you're looking for. There are scientific studies that support both the nature and nurture arguments for homosexuality. It's also worth noting that the vast majority of these studies are done on gay men since they're the easiest group to study. Consequently, the results may not necessarily apply to everyone else. And of course, despite the fact that there's some theories as to why homosexuality exists, it's very, very far from being soundly proven.
I'm looking for any articles that's worth reading. Since yesterday, I've found some pages on wikipedia but other than that, not much else. I asked in case any of you knew some interesting studies or theories.
I've got an exam shortly (so I should be studying), but I can go look through my class notes later tonight and pull up the studies we looked at.
Hooker's study could be worth looking into. It was one of the first few study to try and determine if homosexuality was a pathology, whereas other previous studies had all researched homosexuality under the idea that it was a pathology. Hooker's research was done in the early 1950s if I remember correctly, and it led to a few additional research like Freedman's study on Lesbians.
