My mum has her own laptop, my dad doesn't live with us, my brother has a laptop and my grandma doesn't understand English. I go on here when my mum is watching TV. So, luckily for me, it's quite easy. I don't really need to use private browsing or history. It doesn't matter to me. ---------- Post added 28th Mar 2013 at 08:45 PM ---------- I do the exact same.
I have my own PC which doesn't save history and nobody uses my Mac, so I don't really worry about it.
I use my phone and is got a lock . It's always with me anyways . I don't think they would be able to work. It anyways they are a bit hopeless with technology
I use my laptop, phone or iPad and just delete the history on the last one. The other two no one else is allowed to use ever.
I usually use my nook but when I use my computer, Firefox decided to remember this site. Now, every time I type in E, emptyclosets automatically shows up. Well, it's a good thing my laptop uses a password
I don't feel I'd ever have to use private browsing. My parents would never think to invade my privacy by looking through my history. I can't picture a parent actually doing something like that - sounds pretty despicable to me.
I either use my phone or iPad, both of which have EC bookmarked because nobody gets on them except me! If I use one of the family computers I just turn on private browsing.
If that bothers you, open up Firefox and press Ctrl+H. That opens your history on the left side. Right click any link to EC and click "Forget About This Site". That will make it disappear from suggestions.
I use InPrivate Browsing to be on the safe side ,my mother doesn't care what I do with the laptop so I could just browse regularly. Also she couldn't check my history because she'd have to log on to my user area but she can't and she'd never guess the password.
When I had to hide my usage of this site, I would just go on my mom's computer and then clear the history. My parents are not too tech-savvy. Also, I would just call this "the forum" (and I sometimes still do this because I got used to it...). Now, my parents know that I'm on here. So, I don't have to worry about things.
I don't think many parents actively browse their chid's history. It's more the fear that it pops in searches and if someone is using their PC or laptop that they'll see it. Genuine fear, not everyone has parents like yours unfortunately. :icon_wink For instance, my parents are snoopy but I know how to outwit them, it's a fun game to play. But they do have sort of a reason too, but they never look at my stuff behind my back. They play fair by asking and deducing.
I do admit my Dad was once a bit of a poo and looked on my phone and saw some porn. He thought it was quite funny. I do think that porn and the likes is a bit of an odd thing, because our parents did the exact thing at our age, and there's no reason why it could possibly be a bad thing. I'm not sure that too many parents really would mind their kids doing it; we're just really embarrassed for some reason. As for EC, I can get that people have to be very careful how their parents find out about their orientation if they don't already know. Private browsing is cool for that (ctrl+shift+n to create a new private window in Chrome with a hilarious message about private data). I just don't think that people should have to be so careful on their own laptops and phones, which should be passworded anyway. There is very little you could be browsing for that could be worse than your parents looking at your private data; it's a human right really
Well, since I haven't lived with my mother in 3 years and she knows I'm a lesbian anyways.. I don't have to sneak around.
I'm on when I have done my homework. I close out EC quickly if I need to and my homework is there. If my parents ask if I am done yet, I say, "Almost done!!" lol
I quickly close the lid to my personal iPad discretely (I hope) when they pass by. One of the reasons I am planning on coming out to dad after schools end is so that he doesn't figure it out by my iPad, rather than me telling him
Alt+Tab and Private Browsing are your friends. I'm on EC fairly often given I'm a mod and I still haven't told my parents about it (even though I'm out to them). It's just a privacy thing they don't need to know about right now, so I'll keep it a secret.
