Since I've come out at school my history teacher has absolutely ignored me. Today in class: Him: What was the famous document signed by King John? Me: *I raise my hand* Him: *Looks right at me* Does anyone know this? Come on! Someone should know this answer! Anyone? Me: Magna Carta Him: No one knows it? Someone has to know this. We've gone over it a thousand times Me: Magna Carta Him: No one. Well, I'm disappointed. It's the Magna Carta - I'm not terribly upset about it, but it makes me a little angry.
Welcome to America. :/ Unfortunately, many teachers and fellow students will ignore you. Don't let it get to you, they're just blind and ignorant. (*hug*)
WTF? I would be incredibly pissed off by that. A teacher who blanks students for whatever reason is not worthy or fit to be a teacher at all. If his behaviour persists then I recommend you talk to a memeber or the staff about it.
Are you a perpetual hand raiser? l was that way in HS and finally the teacher would pick me but not without a sufficient eyeroll and exasperated sigh, beforehand. l didn't come out. ln any case he sounds mean but we weren't there >.>
If you're sure he's singling you out because of your sexuality, then I say raise hell and report him. How did other students react? I would have stood up and said "HE F*CKING SAID THAT." Stay strong. Some of these stories from small, conservative towns break my heart. Please know that there are better places, and if this had happened there, that teacher would have been fired the same day.
Often teachers want to engage students who don't often contribute, so if you typically answer a lot of questions in that class, your teacher might've been looking for contributions from other people. You can probably have a talk with your teacher about how being ignored didn't make you feel so good, but I wouldn't sweat it too much.
I'm actually in a very supportive environment, minus a select few people, but I feel like it's just this guy. Especially since he ends every class with "Be nice to your teachers. Go to church on Sunday" I've started purposely annoying him. (i.e. Tapping my ring against the metal bars on my desk)
I wouldn't do that personally, you shouldn't give him any cannon fodder to actually justify his behaviour towards you.
Meh. Of course it's wrong to not even acknowledge you, but he might be doing it for other purposes. As someone mentioned, some teachers ironically hate it when it's always one or two students that answer everything. My history teacher during secondary school wasn't a fan of me and I think he thought I was arrogant/a know it all. Same problem to a lesser degree in college with one of my English Language teachers. But yeah if you participate loads, that might be the reason?
Yeah, I'll remain in the UK, ta. It's awkward but yeah, that's completely unacceptable from someone who's meant to be a role model
You need to inform a councelor about this because your teacher may do more than that! He could ruin your grade!!
Considering the fact that I have an 18% in that class, despite my perfect turn-in record. I believe he already has
