For a library and those days I just "want to listen to music," I use iTunes (if only for syncing my iPod, really). But for videos, movies, and those random mp3 files I just want to click on, VLC Player is the best :3 It's extremely lightweight and loads instantly, so you don't have to wait seven years for Winamp or Windows Media Player (never use WMP if you respect yourself as a person >__< ) to load up just to listen to or watch one file. Also, VLC plays any media file. The only one I've ever had an issue with is .ASF files, which I have only ever seen come from my camera, lol. =]
For music : Itunes isn't very good, because you can't completly modify artists/album/genres etc. I heard winamp was nice, but kinda heavy. WMP is okay but can become buggy with time (especially if you have lots of music). Mediamonkey is by far the best, imo. And for vidz, I use vlc and am fine with it, it's lighter than wmp.
I've never had a problem with Windows Media Player.. I've always used it. One of Microsoft's only good programs imo.
Wow... You're very lucky then. Even when my media library consisted of a few albums (and not the 54000+ songs that it does today) WMP froze all the time and sucked memory more than... well, you get the idea. :icon_wink
iTunes does me fine for music library, it would be too much hassle to use anything else with my iPod. It's not bad on the Mac, I hear of slowness and crashing on Windows though so I probably wouldn't recommend it for PC users. For video I tend to use quicktime for anything it works with (with the perian plugin, that's most things) and VLC for the odd video or stream quicktime doesn't like. Between the two I'm yet to find a video I can't play.
iTunes is the dirty asshole of media players. I hear foobar2000 is the best. There's also VLC which I use once in a while.
For music, I use Windows Media Player. For videos, I use GOM Player the most often. That and VLC Player.
<3 VLC for videos nothing is better imo for music I just use Itunes. It sucks hard but I don't really have another choice
I use WMP for videos it supports, but VLC is good for those formats that Microsoft fails with. For music, I have been using Winamp for YEARS. About a week ago, I tried out MediaMonkey. I'm not looking back.
I used to use itunes until about 3 years ago when I actually acquired an ipod to use with it, and then realised that its syncing process was meticulous as hell. So I switched to Winamp, which pretty much simplifies the process by a landslide.
VLC is #1 for video, there's another free player for vids called KMPlayer which is almost as good as VLC. For sound files, obviously iTunes, Monkey and Winamp, but players that are less of a resource hog on your system would AIMP (works with playlist) and 1by1 player (no playlist, you find files on your computer in a Windows Explorer-like setup) Both are free. These programs are also portable, which means you can install on a thumb drive, and they won't affect your system registry. Find them by Googling the names.
VLC for video on my PC, and I usually use Spotify for music-streaming. On my mediacenter PC I have XBMC. I'm on Linux, so can't use that WMP and iTunes crap anyway
I use Windows Media Player for music and VLC for videos and music (usually if I'm too impatient to wait for WMP to load). :lol:
VLC (Video Lan Client) player plays most of the common video file types... but it isn't like WMP MPC (Media Player Classic) plays most of the video formats found these days. RealPlayer is also good and can even play flash files even if you don't have Adobe Flash Player (What's also nice about this, is that you can download Flash videos directly from Youtube and so on. Though it doesn't work for every website) I myself uses either WMP or iTunes... though for movies I use VLC
Actually, if you have a spare PC or laptop that's a bit outdated, installing it with XBMC (open source) makes an excellent mediacenter if you have a flatscreen TV. Can't stand watching movies on the PC ... but then movies is a big interest of mine
