Omg I can't believe they seriously published that. What morons. That is offensive on so many levels. I mean they start by saying a gay man can't play a straight man on broadway. Well who do they think is going to play them then? And as for their going after Groff, well let me tell you he played a mighty good straight man when I saw him in Spring Awakening and I think he's doing a great job now. This article is offensive and written by a bigot, it has no factual evidence. Is newsweek owned by fox?
Neil Patrick Harris or Ian McKellen anyone? I mean, it all depends on the actor. No, a crappy actor that was flamboyantly gay probably couldn't play a straight man, but a good actor can play whatever he wants.
This is seriously ignorant, i can feel the bias of the writer pouring out of this crap heap of an article. There should be some backlash at Newsweek for publishing this. The only reason we see issues where people go "he is gay and can't play a str8 guy" is because of bigoted people like the one writing this article that let that color everything else about the person. I would have gone my whole life thinking the guy off Glee was another hot str8 actor had i not read that, yet this person appears to think that they speak for everyone saying it is false..... IT IS ACTING you don't act like yourself if your good, or you get typecast into stuff. lbvrivbrntb this article made me pissed i could give this writer more than a little bit of a talking to on the subject....
And Newsweek won't be running anymore of these stupidly ignorant "articles", because they are now officially dead in the water. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/05/AR2010050502285.html
So...? Can straight character's play gay ones? Isn't the whole point of acting playing something you are not?
Wow, my IQ dropped 10 points reading that. Seriously, what the fuck?! A good actor can play any part they want, gay or not. Neil Patrick Harris is brilliant on "How I Met Your Mother," for example. Those "Newsweek" people are just a pack of idiots. :tantrum:
I didn't even know who Groff was until 7 days ago. Even then i didn't know his name it was just when i saw him on Glee. Yet still within 10-20 seconds i was almost completely sure he was gay. It leaves me happy that my gaydar is reasonable well tuned. Either way i don't think there is any problem with gay actors playing straight roles as majority of the time you don't even realize.
This is just yet another example of the decline in quality from Newsweek in recent months. They seem either to have lost any decent reporter having fled the sinking ship long ago or decided to try tabloid style writing to stir up controversy to bring in readers. For their sake I hope it's not the latter, as that article was the final straw for me. They not only lost my subscription but my parent's and uncle's as well with that peice of trash.
Interesting, because my gaydar didn't go off with him, even though i guess he's completely out. However, if you look at this video, it's pretty obvious
Lesbian actresses might have it easier—since straight men think it's OK for them to kiss a girl and like it— Using lyrics from a song I answer- Makes me sick when I hear all the shit that you say So much crap coming out it must take you all day:***:
flaunting your gaydar infront of people who need theirs recalibrated... tsk tsk tsk. If Glenn Beck can pretend that america cares what he has to say, why cant I play a straight male in a play, tv show, or movie?
