...and how did they determine the dog was gay? That's ridiculous. Even if the dog was gay... why would it matter? It's a guide dog!

So they misheard 'guide' as 'gay'?
I'm trying to make sense of the situation because I'm sure the article isn't covering the whole story and there must be some kind of misunderstanding there.

I'm still laughing that they ordered them to issue a written apology to a blind guy.

    That I could understand.

By law (I'm pretty sure in US, Canada, and Australia at least), any place handling food cannot allow animals in, unless they are a service animal of some sort. So it may not be because the dog was 'gay' it's most likely because they misheard guide for gay, and said that they can't have a dog in.

I can totally see this "gay dog" and "guide dog" sound very similar, particularly given a noisy environment and maybe an Australian accent. Of course, anyone with an ounce of brains would have figured it out; my guess is the person making the mistake is closeted or otherwise has "gay" on the brain which is why that was the first interpretation of the ambiguous phrase.

Umm question for everyone. How does "GUIDE DOG" be misconstrued to be "GAY DOG"? This is the most insane thing and that waiter obviously needs to get his or her ears checked...
