SO im out and abotu ot start High school next year give me tips on anything I should know about being gay in high school. Thanks
Be yourself. Cliche? yes... Best advice? yes. Oh, and if someone hassles you for being the way you are, specifically homosexual just ask them "how does my sexual orientation affect you in any way, shape, or form?".. it gets kids to shut up from my school. Granted, most aren't very witty.
JT hit the nail on the head there I'm sure you already know, but just ignore the idiots who think you're a freak; they know nothing and you usually get nowhere trying to talk them through it. Love those who love you and ignore those who haven't got anything better to do with their lives GOOD LUCK!!!
In my experience, the riddicule will dissipate around junior or senior year. As (some) students begin to mature, and realize that life's not all about making a gay kid's life hell.
Don't make any apologies. Keep your head held high and as much as possible, try not to take what people say to heart. Try and prepare some responses to comments you think you're sure to get - if you can cut someone down with something smart, you'll get respect from people who see it.
You really only get shit from lower classmin in my opinion if you get any. People finally grow the hell up by juniorish year (at least in my experience). i think its easier than middle school with less bull. Good luck.
if it wanted to come out to everyone...the first year of high school would be the best. since you are going to meet people who have no idea who you are. you can kind of be open about things. haha um dont take crap from no one. and be ready for people to start drama haha :] but over all high school is great
* Memorize your locker combination. * Try to get gym class at the end of the day. * Late lunch is better than early lunch. * Always carry extra pens. * Be friendly. * Kick ass. Same list for the straights, actually. Lex
I like lex's advice. You really don't need anything more than that. You don't have to flaunt being gay. The only people who matter when it comes to your orientation are the people who support you and don't really care if you're gay or straight. They are the people who are your true friends. Anyone gives you a hard time, it doesn't really matter, because they don't really care about you. Just that 3 letter word. Follow Lex's advice and know who your real friends are. That's all you'll ever need.
^ That's pretty much how I survived my first year of high school. Honestly, if you wanna come out, make damn sure that your school is accepting. I came out and there are naysayers and crap, but nothing really changed for me. After about 2 weeks, the uproar I caused disappeared. Freshman year is full of drama, because everyone's immature to some degree. The higher you get in high school, the less drama (usually). Oh, when it comes to upperclassmen. Show them respect, but don't be afraid to stand up for yourself or your friends. Show them respect because they are older and probably bigger. Be nice. However if they're pushing you around and stuff, don't be afraid to stand up to them. Get involved. Join a club. This will help you find people with similar interests and ideology. You can make life-long friends by doing this. Bottom line. Be nice, be friendly. Don't fall into cliques because that makes people you don't even know hate you because they hate your friends. Be involved.
My advice - Have confidence in yourself. You are who you are and nothing can change it. Don't make any apologies for who you are. If someone gives you shit - don't let it get to you. Ignore them and move on. It can be hard I know but sometimes all you can do is grit your teeth and do it. And make sure you do everything Lex says. He's full of good advices.
I just started highschool this year too. The thing is, you dont need to come out to EVERYONE. I know ive only come out to a few select friends and it hasnt gotten out at all. Just be careful of who you tell, i know plenty of people who are completely demeaning, and i just have to hold my head high, and thats not even about my sexuality. Thats just my experience though :/
umm welll get friends get lots of people who like you (not like like likelike but like as in like as friends) act cool be cool be yourself forget what anyone else says be tough idk? lol after a while nobody will care
