http://thinkprogress.org/2008/12/10/stewart-grills-huckabee/ I normally don't like Stewart much, but I sat there with my mouth open at the end in shock of the awesome I had just witnessed.
I love Jon Stewart...he and his writers are both intelligent and hilarious. It would be great if more states gave us the right to marry; I really want that day to come. However, I personally think it's so much more important to pass and/or amend federal legislation that protects our rights at work, in housing (among other situations) and makes any substantiated form of gay bashing a hate crime. There are so many states where if you get fired from a job simply for being gay, there's not a damn thing you can do about it. So marriage is something to look forward to, but how can we be giving that issue so much attention when most states (along with the feds) don't even have laws that explicitly protect our civil rights? Yes, one can argue that "marriage is a civil right." And yes, it would be great to have the right to marry the person I love regardless of their sex. But seriously, I'm scared s--tless about being discriminated against, let alone having to physically defend myself because of who I'm attracted to.
I fucking love Jon Stewart!!! I get his show on itunes cuz im too lazy to watch it when its on, anyway I saw this and was like fuck yeah!!!!! the whole time. Its soooo amazing!
I actually think Huckabee defended his point calmly and clearly, as did Jon Stewart, and that made for a good exchange of viewpoints. Even though Stewart was better.
I absolutely love seeing people with power using their power to motivate and educate the ignorant. I'm sure with that he might have changed some homophobe's minds, it maybe only a few but its better than nothing
Don't hate Huckabee. Considering he is incredibly right-wing, he is much better than other right-wing people. I disagree with so much of what he believes in, but I can also find myself believing that Huckabee is a good person in the end. Hate's a strong word: reserve it for people who deserve it a bit more.
Good interview (discussion). I think Jon Stewart obviously did the better job and the audience seemed to agree too. I couldn't imagine someone like Huckabee being president or making laws for our country...
Huckabee doesn't know what the heck he is talking about. He probably mentioned that marraige was just between a man and a woman like 6 times, he kept running out of ideas and all he had to say to jon was "I don't agree with that". Go Jon Stewart! I love the way that he kept on firing out good points and Huckabee didn't know how to respond. Has anyone read his book yet? I am tempted to read it just to see what kind of crap he's righting.
No, my money is better spent on other things. And to think that this frogbrained theocrat is going to keep trying for President makes me very, very sad.
Believe it or not, but Huckabee's views on the matter really do reflect the views of a good deal of Americans out there. At least Huckabee doesn't get up in arms over homosexuality like some people...
Like when he regurgitated that false talking point about how we would have to tolerate pedophiles and polygamists if we legalized same-sex marriage?
GOGOGO JOhhy boy! There is a sick part of me that likes to watch people squirm when they know they're losing an argument.
