Hi, as mentioned in the topic I'm new. My friend pointed me to this site and it interested me. Would have been nice to discover it earlier since I'm already out of the closet. My name is Hafsteinn and I'm from Iceland (hence the weird Icelandic name but most foreigners just say Haff...). I'm content with myself, I'm 20 years old studying mathematics for my Bachelor degree. I have various hobbies, I like music and sports, I'm open minded and try to be relaxed in the stressful life of a College student (I take school quite seriously). I thought it would be appropriate to give an introduction. This is the most formal I can give since continents and the Atlantic sea separate me from the rest of the world (a handshake would be better). So here I am ready to float on. And yeah, it would be nice to speak with like minded people. Math is always a good topic :icon_bigg
Welcome to EC, hope you enjoy it here. Doesn't matter if your already out, there is always advice to give and receive here & maybe your coming out story will help those who aren't out yet. anyways have fun! & eww @ math =P lol
Welcome to our EC family. Look around, read and get to know the place. It's fun, helpful and informative. Sorry, can't talk much about math...never was a great subject for me!
Heya Haff! It's great to have you here! I visted Iceland this summer as a sort of geography trip and it was just wonderful there; it's so beautiful. We went to the rift-valley, climbed a glacier, went on that icecap untop of the volcanio and visted the Blue Lagoon (of course!) among other things. I was just stunned because it's such a unique place! I would try and recall names but, erh, like you said, they're hard for us >__< (I'm thinking your name is pronounced "Haff-stee-en" but I've been no good at languages, sorry...) Looks like I'm the first on this tread to love maths.... Sure, I've got a little but to go before I get to uni, but hey, I'm doing it for a-level, does that count?!? See you around! Rosina
Hello and welcome aboard, Hafsteinn! :smilewave I visited your country in August. Took a dip in the Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik. What an amazingly beautiful place! I hope to return some day.
Hey, welcome to EC! I was pretty much totally out when I fond the site too, but that hasn't stopped me loving it
Hi there! :smilewave I love Maths too, and I'm in Engineering. I kinda go amazed when those Maths students actually solve those Boundary-Value-Problems and the PDE analytically without using numerical methods. Mathematicians are so cool! Also, how do you pronounce Reykjavik?
welcome to EC.... i to love math, although that is not what im going for in college im going to get my business administration degree with an minor in accounting....lol so im still working with numbers just not crazy numbers that you see in like calculus or physics...lol....
Welcome to EC! I'm a mechanical engineering major and I'm getting a math minor. So I know where you're comming from! But yeah, it's fun. Hope you find some new friends!
Wow! Thanks for all the responses, I feel welcome @littledinosaurs sure I can help you with precalc, just msg me or something, it's always fun to be able to help. I wont promise you success unless you do something to though @Rosina I think you would pronounce my name H'a'fst''a''dn where the first 'a' sounds like the 'a' in math and the second ''a'' sounds like the ''a'' in game. @darkestknight Reykjavík would probably sound like R''a''kj'a'week with same instructions as for Rosina Didn't really expect so many people interested in mathematics, glad to see so many! Again, thanks for the replies!
