Alright, something has be done from all this thread flooding going on in EC lately.
There is ALOT of one title threads being created that contain a sentance in the body that leaves little for conversation.

It seems everyday we at least get 2 more of these threads in the chit chat section and they really are flooding out topics that deserve some conversation.

Can we have lets say a max of so many words in a thread before you can create one?

Or at least remind these people that spamming is very bad.

    Thanks

No, you just spam other peoples threads instead :icon_wink

Seriously tho' - some people simply aren't as expressive as others. That being said, you'd be surprised just how many spammy threads are deleted from the forums.

Well still it seems like spam when someone posts something like,
    "Nothing makes you happy."

I mean, what is the purpose?

Every single thread or post on EC hardly needs to serve a purpose...

There was that thread titled 'Hard' going on about how depressing life was...I can't actually believe enough people responded to get it past 1 full page of posts. It seriously should have just been deleted cos it was a complete waste of space.

That said, I only post something when there's something worth talking about. Cos writing 2 words and expecting people to make a decent reply is just ludicrous.

You could always raise the minimum character count for a post to 50 or 75.

The person who started the "Hard" thread also started several others that were equally pointless. I think this was an attempt to get 10 posts to access the chatroom. The others (about 8-10 of them) had no replies so were all deleted.

"Hard" however already had about 10 replies by the time I got to it. It was becoming one of those random fun chat threads that was doing no harm, so I moved it to Fun and Games and left it to continue.

If we went around closing all these random chat threads we would be criticised for being heavy-handed. Remember the mess and criticism when the photo posting thread got hijacked, and we had to close it?

The approach at the moment is to move these more trivial but fun threads to Fun and Games, and try to keep the slightly more serious and general stuff in Chit Chat. We don't want to limit people's fun here, but it helps to keep it in Fun and Games generally.

We are trying to reduce the amount of thread hijacking around the place, and I think there is some improvement in that regard now. In particular we delete irrelevant or trivial posts in threads in the support sections to keep them focused on the thread starter's issue.

More specifically on spamming, when someone posts something pointless in a thread, such as just "idk" or whatever, we will delete it. Some of these are just for post count I think (chatroom access again). We probably delete 10-20 of these a day, sometimes more.
