    ~ BRIEF Summary ~
    ════ ⋆★⋆ ════

Just as the title of the thread and article suggest, the Iowa Senate subcommittee has planned to move forward with their plans to restrict LGBTQ topics and concepts in schools. As one child who was transgender bravely stated: "How will my teachers help me if I get bullied it's illegal to talk about it." (Not exact quote but you get the gist) and another woman testifies saying something like: "We don't need that LGBT rhetoric in our schools." And something about indoctrination.

And there was something in there about banning LGBT activities too. So likely GSAs would be banned as well.

But yeah, basically the Iowan senate is planning on moving this through. I'll provide my thoughts below. ..

    ~ My Thoughts~

As an LGBTQ+ Iowan myself, I find this bill and similar bills like it very disturbing. It's disgusting on the grounds of it censors what our kids can learn about at school and especially bad for young LGBTQ students where school may be the only place they have to explore and be themselves around their friends and teachers they trust. How can teachers help them if what they can or can't talk about is being censored?

Shouldn't the GOp know that they're basically tying all teachers hands behind their backs and expecting them to just...hop to their fascist tune? The thing is, the cruelty is the point. They don't care about actual education or a well rounded education...they want their kids to grow up to become narrow minded little alt Reich Nazis. It's disturbing the lengths these assholes will go to censor what our kids can or can't learn....but this is the party of freedom don't cha know?/sarcasm.

Yeah freedom for them to be bigots....and keep our kids about learning about actual history and the different types of people that exist beyond the heteronormative perspective. Being LGBT is NOT inherently sexual. They make it about sex and of course spread that misinformation. And these "Don't say gay or trans" bills are just more par for the course with these dipshits. It's disgusting, harmful, queerphobic, and discriminatory! I'm tired of it! I've been tired of it.

I don't know if anyone has talked about it on here. But down in Oklahoma (and maybe a few other states too idk) there's a bill that would essentially ban gender affirming care for everyone until age 26. This essentially is an overreaching attempt to erase trans people from the narrative. It's vulgar, it's disgusting, and I wouldn't be surprised if Iowa tried something similar next.

Hell at the rate we're going, we're probably gonna make school libraries ban certain types of books too..oh wait, I think COVID Kimmy (governor of Iowa, unfortunately) said she'd make sure that "parents have the right to know what they're kids are learning" or something to that effect. Basically it's a whole campaign to keep our kids from getting a diverse and well rounded education and I'm sick of it. Especially when it comes to attacking young LGBT kids. Leave us alone! I'm sick of the games! We need to take this trash out like yesterday!

One quote from the article that stands out -

"Young children do not have the capacity to understand or process these complex issues" - according to one of the anti-LGBT activists.

Really ? Let's look at the facts: the proposed Iowa bill bans discussion of any LGBT topic between kindergarden and Grade 8.

Personally, I already knew with 100% certainty that I was homosexual by Grade 5, because I was repelled by female anatomy and erotically obsessed with naked men. I had pleasurable oral sex with my first partner by Grade 6 (another kid at school, who was equally aware of his own homosexuality).

And from conversations I heard among my fellow students as early as Grade 5 - they left no doubt about what children are thinking or asking about at the cusp of puberty.

And this was at the end of the 1970s, when (1) what we called "gay liberation" was only just getting started and (2) the Internet did not exist.

Fast forward to 2023, when any child with access to a TV can see soft porn, and any child with a smartphone can view hardcore porn.

If kids today aren't educated about sexuality in school, what kind of information will they be relying on instead ? (Since it obviously won't be coming from the dinner table, let alone from church.)

I'm not defending the excesses of wokism, which can go to absurd extremes. But these puritanical, delusional parents are condemning their own kids to even more ignorance and dysfunction.

Maybe you don't want to reply which is fine, but what are you talking about? Some examples would be great.

I casually typed "the excesses of wokism" - I know this opens the door to inflammatory discussion. Probably not necessary here because I think we're all on the same page when it comes to LGBT+ human rights across the board.

But I already stepped my foot in it - my bad - so I should own it ... I was thinking of proposals, for example, that *basic mathematics instruction* should be policed for possible racism. Or that professors of biological sciences with sterling records shouldn't be hired because they didn't submit an adequate "land acknowledgment" statement (perhaps they're just not fluent in social-sciences jargon?). This is where I start to see shades of 1960s Maoism and fanatical religious orthodoxy.

I’m not in America but most of the schools in my country are Catholic and we were taught nothing about LGBT+ topics. I think the fact that gay wasn’t even mentioned was the reason it took me a while to figure out I was gay. Even the kindergarten kids can understand that some boys date other boys and some girls date other girls. They could also be taught that some people are born in the wrong body. I don’t think young kids need a lot of LGBT+ education but some should be provided because some of those kids will be LGBT+. I always knew that male anatomy grosses me out but I didn’t think I was a lesbian. It never occurred to me. Then came the epiphany that I was crushing on girls and always had been. I discovered lesbian fiction and then this site. I think kids can understand that LGBT+ people exist, the adults are the problem. It’s not indoctrination but introduction in to the idea that people can be different than you but still people.
