I’m going to my first lgbt youth event on the 24th and my bi flags just came! So excited and can’t wait to meet my friends in person that I’ve made online.
What did it feel like for you when you went to your first event after recently coming out?

(sorry I’m overwhelmed right now so sorry if that question didn't make sense)

Depends on what you mean by event. As far as pride I had been out a long time and was actually a volunteer. It was fun.

The first times I ever met with other LGBT+ people was at a group for people who were considering transitioning and it was very scary. After a while I was exploring coming out as lesbian and my therapist sent me to the Hollywood Gay and Lesbian Center. It was terrifying, all I did the first time was sneak in not talking to anyone and pick up a few brochures and a schedule of meetings. I felt as if my heart was going to explode.

I've never been to Pride or anything, but the first PFlag meeting I attended was pretty cool. Sadly it's only ever been virtual, but I'd love to go to one in-person if/when lockdown is over.

And that sounds super exciting! I hope you have a good time!

I found it amazing. I’d gone to pride before, as a straight ally. The last time I went as an ally I was not fully out as bi - it felt inauthentic in a way, but I liked talking with other marchers who were fully out as bi/pan/etc. During the next months I bought flags and pride clothing for the next pride march. I had so many flags of different styles that I decided to loan some for a float and also let a kid pick one to carry too. I went fully out, and loved it. Someone I knew took a photo of me from the sidelines as I marched past and I have a big grin on my face! I took lots of pictures too, and side-by-side photos with me and friends preparing for the parade.

PS: Bring water. Use sun screen.

@BiGemini87 I just have a question about PFlag. When I looked up their website in my city, it seemed like it was just for parents of LGBTQ kids. Are their meetings just for parents, or for LGBTQ people themselves? I would like to attend some kind of meeting, but have been having difficulty finding one that will fit for me.

They are for everyone. The main reason for the group being created was to help those who are family of LGBT people but anyone can go. The PFLAG group where I lived helped me to find the psychologist who ran the trans group when I last transitioned.

Like @QuietPeace said, they're for everybody. We actually have a number of youth that join ours pretty often; some independently, others with a parent for support, but many members (aside from allies or family members of LGBTQ people) are LGBTQ themselves of all ages.
