Thought it’d be fun to see if anyone is taking this opportunity to learn any new languages? I’ve always found languages really interesting and always love hearing what languages others are learning

Currently I am teaching myself Korean.

I am learning C#, JavaScript, PHP and some other programming languages. Please say it counts. :smirk:
Learning the music language to understand violin notes. :violin:

Also I've self-taught English and still improving it everyday. The next languages will be Japanese and Latin. I already started Japanese in 2019 but didn't do much through 2020. I love to learn languages in depth because I am a linguaphile.

Haha, yes I will accept those too. I’m actually also trying to teach myself Python

Also Japanese is awesome!! I tried to teach myself some Japanese too, but ended up stopping and switching to Korean. Japanese is a pretty intense language with the three different writing systems and all the kanji...Lol

Python is the best (as I hear it many say).

The worst thing is you (as a non-Japanese) can't write your name (any foreign word) with those beautiful Kanji. And you have to use those not so beautiful Katakana to write your name.

Korean is also good. Any language has their own beauties. To me, Japanese is very exotic.

Yeah, I’ve heard the same thing about Python. I’ve heard it’s a little bit harder but it’s supposedly a jack of all trades type language.

This is very true....Lol. The katakana definitely doesn’t look look quite as pretty as the kanji lol.

I’m learning Russian and I’m using a combo of Immersion and Duolingo. So far I’m at just over 200 days in the course.

I started learning Spanish during the beginning of the (initial) lockdown but unfortunately didn't stick to it. I'd love to get back into it at some point though. Another language added to my "Started learning* pile lol

I've been working on Spanish with Duolingo for almost two years ago. I've also very recently started wondering if I could teach myself a programming language.

I guess getting immersed, is almost a must for learning a human language / programming.
And in my experience with learning English, one of the best ways (perhaps the best way by far) to learn a human language is reading books (novels, etc) that is written in that language.

    I learn Japanese for fun.

I think it would be fun to learn Russian, Swedish, Mandarin.

About programming languages, I need to improve my Python :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    True.

Golang seemed interesting too. But first, I’d rather learn now to build websites in Java and Python. And a bit of front end to go more full stack.

My friend thinks Python will take the PHP's place, because everyone who wants to learn web-developing (or other things) are being told to learn Python.

Its been a while. Without complete immersion, its difficult, but I've had a passing interest in learning something like Arabic or Russian. Something different/challenging, but also useful.

WordPress thing seems unstoppable. Yesterday, I saw a site says 39% of the websites are built by WordPress. It's like an empire on which the sun never sets.)

I like to learn Arabic too. One of my favourite languages. Don't know anything about Russian but I've heard it's one the most beautiful languages.
Yeah I like the idea of challenging myself too.

But Wordpress is a CMS (content management system), and frameworks to build web applications in Python, Java, C# etc. are a different kind of thing. CMSs are more ready-made, especially some, and especially Wordpress, and the latter allow to suit the needs of the client better. Obviously both have their upsides and downsides, Wordpress is better suited for simpler and more generic websites.

To be honest, I would learn Russian, becuase its close to my mother tongue linguistically and also close geographically to where I live. But Arabic would definitely be in the “challenge” bag for me. And so are languages of the Far East: Japanese, Mandarin, Korean.

But it is related to PHP. There are many PHP programmers behind this. Many people write plugins for WordPress (all written in PHP). Meaning as long as WordPress remains popular so does PHP maybe? I don't know.

    Alright.

Php doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon for sure.

Anyway, my friend is not a professional programmer and is into AI and data mining. But, she says she's done an extensive research a while ago and came to the conclusion that Python will take the PHP's place (don't remember what exactly she said, something like that).
