I came across a few gay magazines while browsing another site, nothing porn related, more stuff i might try subscribing to. there was a UK based gay times, AXM (not sure where its based but seems to be very femminine), XY, and attitude. anybody subscribe to anything like this? I was thinking about trying to get XY, i think i could talk my mom into it, i am out to her (and therefore my stepdad), so it'd be easy to keep quiet from anyone else. I was also reading that XY is delivered in unmarked sealed envelopes, which is nice. just curious what you guys thought of it.
Edit: ehh, just realized attitude was a fashion mag, seemingly like AXM. I'm more looking for an overall gay "thinking" mag. Not too into fashion.

I used to get XY years ago but it's pretty much trash. I love how they also have "XY Foto," given that the regular XY is so lacking in pictures.

Reading XY on a regular basis is a great way to end up feeling bad about yourself, in my opinion. Plus when I submitted stuff to them to be published, they jerked me around, didn't let me know whether or not they were going to run it, and hacked it to pieces when they did print it. And yeah... no renumeration. Which would have been okay if they'd actually communicated that to me at some point.

They are supposed to publish bi-monthly (6 times a year) but you'll be lucky if you get 3 issues in a year.

The guy who publishes it is completely full of himself and thinks he's some kind of saviour for young gay guys. I think you're better off with Internet porn and a decent queer youth-oriented website like Mogenic or Oasis. Cheaper and WAY more satisfying.

Ehh, dont really need porn (not really into that kind of thing). Thats the main reason I'm asking about the mags, i dont want them for porn, more for a "community" connection. the thing that caught my eye initialy was the survivial guide that XY offers. I will check out the websites though.
On the topic of porn, i think its cooler to go somewhere like summerfest (big summer fesival with many popular bands) to check people out. There's nothing hotter than finding a hot person randomly in real life.

Ohh! just checked out oasismag.com quick, and at first glance it was hard to tell that its for gay youth, more stress on whether it was gay or not. looks like a cool site. thanx

Well, XY has some good information--there's no denying that--but there's this pretty insidious presentation of uber-young, predominantly white, skinny/muscle-y "twink" boys over and over again in it and ultimately I found it pretty demoralising because while I'm cute, I can't compete with magazine fantasy. And to be fair, all the teen magazines and all gay magazines do that to some degree. It's just always seemed really hypocritical to me that the XY staff go on and on about how wonderful XY is and how much of a positive impact it makes and never cops to the fact that it pushes/peddles this very generic and stereotypical image of perfection as much as any other "regular" magazine.

To put it succinctly, I don't think someone's good deeds should ever excuse any harm they do. I think they hold themselves to a lower standard than they should simply because they are marginally better than some of the other options out there. And queer youth are, in my opinion, particularly succeptible to messages like "you must be like this to be a real gay boy." And XY really milks the whole "You're cool if you like XY" angle, the implicit flipside of that being "you're nothing if you aren't like us."

I even wrote a paper on it once. Not that I'm nerdy or anything. *grin*

Yea, I've come to the conclusion that being around here is better than anything else, well i guess it would be better to actually talk to somebody in person, but everythings good and, well, moral right here.
