What do you guys think the most gay friendly country/state/nation in the world may be?

I think it may be Massachusetts (USA) or New York (USA) maybe? I'm not sure though because I've never been to either. Are the people very accepting down there?

As a Canadian, I'll also go with Canada. In most places I can be openly gay and be myself and I am warmly accepted. Zume and I are openly gay in a smaller city (holding hands, kissing in public) and we've never had even a frown from anyone. I always thought we'd have to live in a "gay friendly neighborhood" in a larger city to be safe, but we're living in an average suburban home and everyone seems totally comfortable with the gay couple living in their midst! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But.. I also think that most places in North America and Europe are very accepting and friendly towards LGBT folks.. it's usually us that are a little too apprehensive or paranoid that everyone is against us. I was prepared to be getting some hassle for being openly gay, but it just hasn't happened. The world just keeps on going around us and nobody seems to care one way or another. Which suits me just fine!

Sweden is the most LGBT-friendly country, at least in legal terms. Same-sex marriage has been possible since May 2009, and gay couples have had the right to adopt since 2003.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add that I've visited Sweden (Stockholm) several times and know how gay-friendly the city is. There's a rainbow flag in Gamla Stan!

There was a thread made a while ago and iirc Spain was the most gay friendly country overall.

Iceland's Prime Minister is a lesbian. Scandinavian countries seem to be very good for LGBT rights.

Same-sex marriage was legalised in ALL Canadian provinces by 2005 (some as early as 2003), and Gay couples had the right to adopt in ALL Canadian provinces by 2007 (some as early as 1996), with the small exception of the Inuit territory of Nunavut which only has a population of 29,000.

I would say the most gay-friendly province in Canada is British Columbia which legalised adoption for same-sex couples in 1996 and same-sex marriage in 2003, but Ontario and the the other provinces were not far behind.

I would say Cambodia. The former king said that he sees no reason why gays shouldn't get married.

Probably Scandanavian countries, although Netherlands will rank quite high too. Honourable mention for the UK which is one of the most improved over the last decade too.

Massachusetts seems to be socially and politically cool. Although New York is supposedly okay socially, gay marriage isn't legal there. I thought Iowa was until yesterday... (grumble grumble grumble)
