Our slogan for the year - "fuck 2008".

    1. The biggest change in your life this year?
My second bout of depression, having my grandmother and one friend die, having my partner lose his job and mine move to the chopping block.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
Recover. I did that pretty well.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?
Strengthened by fire. Not pleasant, but we came through it all right.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?
The beginning of ecomonic collapse, Obama's campaign.

    5. Favourite song from the year?
"Hail to the Geek" by the Deaf Pedestrians.

    6. Favourite artist this year?
    Meese and Roe. (That's two.)

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
Yes, I lost some weight. Gaining it back, though.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
Getting through it with my sanity intact.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
My mother, who faced some really difficult times better than I thought she could.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
You can wake up to find a friend is gone forever. Depression can come back. Don't tense your arms against the steering wheel when a car plows into yours. Everything is ephemeral, and that needs to be accepted.

    11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?
    More than I wanted.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
    I survived the car wreck.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
No, but I should've. Frittered too much of the year away.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
    My tenth anniversary party.

    15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?
Too many to pick just one.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
My partney, my family, my friends, and my (relative) financial security.

    17. What are your plans for xmas/ new year?
Make things go as smoothly as possible.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2009? What do you hope will be different?
Get back on the diet and exercise regiment.

    19. How do you rate 2008 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
    2.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
    Possible but not probable.

    Lex

  2. 1. The biggest change in your life this year?
Coming out to myself and my family and friends.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
I danced in a four-week ballet intensive, The King and I at one theatre, and The Music Man at another. I also visited my grandparents in Arizona and went to Colorado.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?
Sat next to a boy I liked in Spanish for a few months and came out to him- but he doesn't like me back. Had an on-and-off crush on my best friend. Dated a girl from dance who dumped me for someone else. Sexy.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?
Obama. I know everyone's saying this, but it's big.

    5. Favourite song from the year?
"So What" by P!nk, and the memories I associate with it. :icon_wink

    6. Favourite artist this year?
P!nk or Melissa Etheridge. Also, Muse is up there.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
    Honestly, I can't remember. *headdesk*

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
I made it into Youth Company at dance and performed with a professional theatre for the first time.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
A friend of mine from school who needs to get his butt on EC, for coming out and being awesome.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
Don't trust a ho, never trust a ho.

    11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?
Moving was a big change. And coming out.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
Swim in freezing water during a storm. And get felt up by a friend... (over clothes, though!)

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
8th grade priority? Giving me the ability to cut lowly 6th and 7th graders in line for lunch and vending machines?

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Finding out I made Youth Company. I called my mom from Colorado w/ my grandparents and my ballet teacher answered her cell phone because my mom was at the teacher's house, picking up some forms. My mom made her tell me and I started crying on the phone.

    15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?
I went swimming in September in an unheated pool while it was raining. It was FREEZING!

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
My friends for standing by my craziness, and my moms for loving me.

    17. What are your plans for xmas/ new year?
Play a lot of drums and guitar, and spend New Year in Arizona being warm!

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2009? What do you hope will be different?
Dance harder, find a girlfriend who won't toy with me, work on my extensions, be a Merliton in Nutcracker. Practice drums & guitar more. I'll be busy!

    19. How do you rate 2008 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
    8. It was an awesome year for school, dance, friends, and finding myself. I wish summer theatre had been a bit better, and I wish I wouldn't have lied to a gym teacher and gotten myself a detention. But it was great overall.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
Definitely. Unless high school drives me to insanity.

    1. The biggest change in your life this year?
Finally after almost 15 years of being lost in the abiss which is my closet, came out to some close friends and colleagues, my brother and my nan told me she knew anyway.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
Met my (ex)girlfriend and spent as much time as we could together around work and other commitments

    3. How were relationships with girlfriends?
Good while it lasted, will be eternally grateful to her as she gave me the confidence to at least open the closet door and take a few little steps out of it. Thanks Emma X

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?
The Ellen and Porta wedding, sparked a discussion between everyone in our house all of whom thought that everyone should be able to express their love for one another in whatever way they choose regardless of their orientation, it gave me the faith that when I eventually sum up the words to tell my folks I'm gay, they'll be cool with it.

    5. Favourite song from the year?
Katie Perry - I Kissed A Girl, used it as a way to come out to my brother, singing along to it but changed the line "I kissed a girl an I liked it" to "kiss girls an I do liked it; an the rest of it" took him three goes to hear what I was saying, we laugh out heads off everytime we hear it now.

    6. Favourite artist this year?
Impossible to narrow it down to one - I have extremely eclectic taste in music.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?

For every mountain summit you reach you discover the valley on the other side (see Q14)

    11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?
Come out in work, my whole attitude changed for the better, weight lifting was an understatement.

Work in progress, watch this space.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
My Nan telling me that me and my (ex)girlfriend make a nice couple, i didn't think she knew (she died a few days later but those happy, smiling, all knowing eyes, that I hadn't seen for quite some time, are going to be something I'll remember for the rest of my life). Thanks Nan, RIP XX

    15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?

    1. The biggest change in your life this year?
Probably entering the sixth form in September, after having finished GCSEs.
    2. What did you do over the summer?
So much! The best thing was a residential choir course which improved my voice so so much, it'll never be the same.
    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?
Umm, non-existent. What a suprise. Basically, I liked various people, but nothing ever came of it. A couple of boys liked me, which was very new, they never had before. One, I really didn't like so I told him I was 100% lesbian (I figured that was the easiest way to let him down), and the other, well, he still likes me I think :eusa_doh:
    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?
I suppose the first that comes to mind is the terrible earthquake in China. Or the ongoing catastrophe that is Zimbabwe.
    5. Favourite song from the year?
Umm, I don't really keep up with the current charts so I don't have a favourite that was released this year. I've been listening to Michael Jackson a lot, though.
    6. Favourite artist this year?
Ditto. I've been listening to loads of stuff, but notably Michael Jackson, Garbage, Namie Amuro, Cream.
    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
I can't remember, but I think it was to give up picking my fingers. I haven't totally yet, but I have cut down a lot, my fingers are pretty nice now. I'm proud of them.
    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
My GCSE drama performance of 'Tristan and Yseult', in which I played the scheming second wife / narrator. We had to direct and arrange the whole thing ourselves, and if I say so myself, it rocked.
    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
Im proud of my friend Lydia. She got into Oxford university to study medicine. I know she's going to go so so far. I just wish she wouldn't go so far from me :icon_sad:
    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
Work hard. Sometimes life sucks. You just have to get through those parts.
    11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?
My life is changing all the time, what with being 15. My choir course was pretty life-changing, I'll always remember that.
    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
With my Dad, I made a traditional etching and aquatint of a flower. I never thought I would, but after lots of work, voila. And I started learning the organ and even played in a church service. Plus I watched a lesbian sex scene in a film with my Mum, which was, ah, an interesting experience, maybe not one to be repeated :icon_wink
    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
Yes, 11 GCSEs. And f***ing hard work they were too, so glad they're done.
    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Having fun with Lydia, making a short film and watching movies late into the night. Getting my GCSE results was pretty good.
    15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?
I am always a paragon of respectability and propriety. Such 'stupid incidents' are absolutely out of my remit.
    ....

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
My family, all my oppurtunities and talents, and being lucky enough to live in a prosperous country with reasonably liberal values.
    17. What are your plans for xmas/ new year?
I'll be in Cornwall over New Year. Learning how to use my new mobile phone :icon_bigg , preparing a drama audition and studying Chinese. And watching teh films.
    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2009? What do you hope will be different?
I think I better make a 'healthy living' resolution. I'm not sure what yet. Have gained rather a lot of puppy fat this year  I hope that I'll be more relaxed, less neurotic, more centred, less stressed. Less worry-worry, more happy, in other words.
    19. How do you rate 2008 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
I said 6, there have been lots of great things, but lots of crap too.
    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
I'm not sure. I hope I will, I probably will, but it depends how busy/neurotic I get and how much time I devote to the internet. Plus, of course, how things go with my sexuality, whether I work it out / accept it more, or whether I neuroticise to death over it. We'll see.

    1. The biggest change in your life this year?

Going to university. Fending for myself, what with the cleaning, cooking and clothing.

    2. What did you do over the summer?

I wasted a huge amount of time worrying over my A level results. I worked as a secretary for a month. I ended up going shopping a great deal, as well as saying goodbye to friends.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?

I actually got into a relationship with a real, living, breathing person. And he's totally fantastic, too.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?

Like most people, it'd have to be the whole razmataz of the American elections. Not the actual results, just the whole publicity war between the candidates.

    5. Favourite song from the year?

Sex on Fire (Kings of Leon). Until everyone started playing it.

    6. Favourite artist this year?

Uh. Joanna Newsom, maybe? She's like a pop musician of the 16th century!

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?

No, but I probably wouldn't have stuck to it anyway.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

I finished something I started writing. I got where I wanted to go for uni. It's all good, really.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?

Oooh. Another toughie, I'm surrounded with people I'm proud of. Friends, family and distant friends.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

Lots. Some rather practical things like living alone. Some rather sad things about what my family think about me telling the truth.

    11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?

Yuh-huh. Coming out, that sort of thing.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?

    Oh certainly.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?

A levels (Chemistry, Biology, Latin and English Lit)

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?

Ye gads. I don't have the brainpower to sift through all of those good times. Probably something around graduation or something.

    15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?

Ending up alone, in the middle of a rough part of Hanley (city centre near university), in the middle of the night in my PJ's. Getting back home was interesting that night.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?

I'm young, I'm having a kick ass time with my life and I've met some of the most wonderful people I've ever met.

    17. What are your plans for xmas/ new year?

Alas, even boxing day is over now, so that's put and end to Christmas completely. Still, it's a small family event for New Years, then going to a friend's party for the rest of it.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2009? What do you hope will be different?

Uh. Something about self-esteem, maybe? Perhaps something about studing a hell of a lot harder?

    19. How do you rate 2008 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?

9.2, it's pretty much the most fantastic year I've had for a long, long time. Still, I wouldn't say it's my best year ever.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?

Oh yes. I mean, I've already done the whole coming out thingie already, but still. It's you fantastic people that I love.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

Yes. Friends are the family you choose, and if they don't choose you, it hurts like a bitch.

My first trip over seas is pretty lifechanging - I have the bug now.

Well i know very few people will actually read this lol, but it was actually very interesting and almost cathartic (big words!) for me to do

    1. The biggest change in your life this year?
I guess its pretty obviously gotta be the coming out. This time last year I wasn’t out to anybody. These days I am out to *counts* 10ish people, which constitutes everyone who I want to know at this stage. So that’s all gone well. And I acquired an amazing best friend who I love very very dearly.
    2. What did you do over the summer?
Ummm, spend time with my boyfriend ,go on hols, get dumped, cry, go to the Reading festival (that’s a music festival for those that don’t know) and have possibly the 3 best days of my life!, then finally went to Washington dc which was pretty awesome, distracted me from the fact id recently been dumped lol.
    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/ girlfriends?
Well I met a guy, who I’ve been at school with for 4 years without talking, at a party. We hit it off pretty much straight away. We progressed to going out. Went out for nearly 5 months, he dumped me. So from nothing, to very good, to very bad lol.
    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2008?
Well I suppose the only contender has to be the election of Obama.
    5. Favourite song from the year?
Well this is bloody impossible, 1 song from a WHOLE YEAR!?!
Recently I loved ‘Human’ by the Killers, on my 17th bday I saw Lightspeed Champion live, dry lips by him would have to be up there. One of Kids/time to pretend by MGMT would be in there. Daddy’s Gone by Glasvegas is amazingly emotional and was amazing live. The Age of the Understatement by The Last Shadow Puppets is amazing too. OK ill stop there I could write forever! So much good music in 08.
    6. Favourite artist this year?
Im gonna share this between 2 bands I saw at the Reading Festival. Firstly as mentioned above, Glasvegas. It was a choice between Tenacious D and Glasvegas. Me and my friend chose Glasvegas, and ive never been so happy to make a decision before. Nearly everyone was at Tenacious D so we were amoung the few there. It was one of the most atmospheric gigs ive ever seen. A measure of how good it was is that the crowd carried on singing Daddy’s Gone for 10mins after they had finished the gig. You either love them or hate them methinks,so youtube them, you might love them!
    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
Hmm I don’t think I did, but if I did I almost certainly broke them!
    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
Getting full marks in 2 of my 3 AS level Geography exams, and only dropping 4 marks in the other one.
    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
My bezzie for always being there for me everytime ive needed since I met her.
    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
‘There are many many fish in the sea, but they don’t all want to be caught’. Ive learnt that lovers come and go, but best friends are priceless.
    11. Have you had any life- changing experiences in 2008?
I suppose being in a relationship, then getting dumped. Neither had ever happened to me before, so I suppose they’re fairly life changing lol.
    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
    I wore eyeliner and mascara.
    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
A-grade AS levels in Biology Geography and Spanish, and a B in Chemistry.
    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
I spent a week in paris with my boyfriend, which was amazing, but memories of him are tainted negatively by how much it hurt when it ended.
So it would have to be when me and my bezzie spent the last day of summer, under blue sky and warm sun, relaxing on the grass by the river.
    15. What was your most stupid incident (drunk stories would be good!)?
After not being let into a bar because I didn’t have ID, I snuck around the side entrance and went in. The stupid part was to walk straight past the same bouncer and get chucked out again and given a intimidating talking to!
    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
I know she has come up a lot, but without doubts my best friend.
    17. What are your plans for xmas/ new year?
Xmas has been, not sure about new year, but im sure some drinking will be involved!
    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2009? What do you hope will be different?
I’m going to try and be more self confidant and put myself down less.
I hope to find love (don’t we all) that doesn’t end up with me being hurt severely.
    19. How do you rate 2008 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
Well this is difficult. Firstly I gained a boy friend, but then I also lost him, so that was a very big negative. On the positives I came out to my friends and have a very very close best friend. So I suppose id give it a 7,a lot of good things have happened, enough to make it a 10, but one bad thing which hurt a lot also happened, so ill give it a 7!
    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
I would have thought so, though probably less regularly as I will be at university this time next year! That is seriously scary…

Accepting myself and coming out to a few people.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
    Yes!

I felt the same about doing mine. It's a chance to stop and reflect on the last year, where I was at the start and end, and how the events of the year shaped the outcome.

And yes I did read yours, and all the others posted here.
