Since I'm not asking for advice on this subject I thought I'd place the thread in Chit Chat, anyway I'm curious to see what peoples views are on guys wearing skirts.

Depending on the guy and the skirt I think it looks pretty cool  and in the hot summer months would be advantageous but once again society in all its wonderful tolerant insight probably wouldn't look too kindly on it :unamused:

FireFox.....I've seen some photos of guys in skirts that looked really good. I've never seen a guy in a skirt in person though...it's just not very common. As you say, society isn't very tolerant of guys dressing in what they consider to be women's clothes.

Yea, sometimes society needs to remove themselves from the 1950's. I've found quite a few images online regarding man skirts and so far none of them look feminine in the slightest.

I honestly don’t see a problem with guys wearing skirts. I don’t think clothing should be tied to gender. Throughout history men have been wearing skirts or robes and some societies still do so today. In today’s world it’s not too weird. If guys would rather wear skirts they should be allowed to. I remember when I was a kid my brother asked to borrow a skirt. He didn’t wear it in public and he was trying to look like one of his favourite wrestlers. I gave him one.

Such a good look, and men should embrace it more. Life is too short to worry about arbitrarily gendering fabric.

It doesn’t make sense. Why can’t anyone where whatever they want without being judged? Are they causing harm to anyone if not do what you like. Men should be able to wear skirts like women should be able to wear “mens” clothes.

the idea that men can’t wear skirts is mad like others have said history shows that they used too. Plus there’s the Scots and the kilts what is that if not a skirt. Yet that’s deemed ok and fashionable. It make no sense whatsoever!!

Agreed, I've looked around online and you can get masculine skirts although they're called something else, can't remember now.

I don’t see a problem with it. It’s literally a piece of clothing nothing more nothing less. If what you’re wearing is not meant to offend a massive group of people you’re fine. Bigger issues in the world need our attention a lot more than that.

Never worn a skirt before, but would love to give it a try. Maybe that could be part of my halloween outfit

I've seen guys wearing kilts to a formal occasion and I was surprised how manly the kilts looked. Although I suppose someone who would want to wear a skirt would prefer to wear a more feminine skirt. Because kilts literally look like a part of an army uniform, they're strudy.

Everyone should be able to wear whatever makes them happy. I have seen some men in social media wearing amazing feminine outfits and they looked really cool.

Agreed, I really want to buy one but I'm too self conscience to attempt it. I keep looking around online and there are a lot of really cool ones like the one below.

Unless I'm mentally corrupt, I think that looks great on him and to me doesn't look feminine at all.

EDIT: Ugh well no idea why that won't show and now can't be arsed to work it out.

Well a continuation of my previous post, for some reason the URL won't show.

Anyway I think that skirt looks really good.

Looks cool indeed. I personally don't like the white socks with the outfit, but otherwise it looks very classy.

Men + skirts = yes please! I find it interesting how society is often more accepting of women wearing more masc clothes than men wearing feminine clothes, in my opinion/experience at least. Yay patriarchy! I long for a day when clothes don't equal gender. Though I also greatly value the power clothes have when it comes to gender/self expression. I've never worn a skirt myself but would love to one day. Harry Styles, Kurt Cobain, Matty Healy (The 1975), YungBlud, Bowie - guys are doing it and have been for years!

Firefox.....I think that musicians/actors/performers can get away with wearing unusual clothes, skirts, etc. easier than others as most people just blow it off as artsy people being eccentric. As a musician myself, I got away with quite a lot in the way I dressed for years for that very reason with no one ever suspecting that I was anything but hetero. After I came out to my wife she said that a lot of things suddenly made sense that had been odd over the years...especially the way I dressed! I never went so far as to wear a skirt, etc. but I did push the line many times as far as styles and colors! I have seen guys, especially in the Summer, wear "skorts"...a skirt (sometimes pleated) with shorts underneath. In any event, it's all a cultural thing. Take a look at what men in the islands of the Southern Pacific wear and you'll see "skirts" quite often.
