T’is the spooky season once again, and this month we’re asking a simple question:

:confounded: What’s the scariest thing that ever happened to you?

Whether it be a brush with death, or even just an awkward social encounter - we want to hear your real life horror stories.

Mine is rather stupid, it kind of makes me chuckle now looking back on it.

Years ago because I can't remember when the Grudge came out I remember watching it and despite being freaked out managed to get through it (horrors aren't the top of my movie genre list), anyway later that day I went for a walk and since being autumn the days were getting shorter and for some strange reason I saw a shadow (probably a tree branch because I'm dumb) and within a short timescale only a scientist can measure I started recalling the Grudge and almost shit myself with fright :scream:

Not seen the Grudge since :unamused:

I got hit by a car a few years ago. Rolled on the ground several times, broke my leg/hip and got a nasty gash by my eyebrow.

I joined an online group which purported to be about creating a (real life) safe community for women in South America. It actually ended up being a personality cult. After a couple of years of manipulating and gaslighting I ended up living with the creator who turned out to be a cis man in Central America. I found myself trapped in a situation where the only way to leave would have meant living on the street (not the first time in my life that happened). I found that I had to live with someone who was deliberately trying to drive me to suicide for another 7 months until I found a way to get out. This was the worst one but I have a pattern of getting involved with Cluster B Personality Disorder people.

Appendix ruptured. Was hours from death. Rushed into surgery at 3AM and spent 7 days in the hospital without food.

This will sound weird but here goes. I had this dream once where I’m asleep and when it’s time for me to wake up I stay asleep. Once I’m finally able to wake up and walk around it’s revealed to me that was merely a dream too. So I could go right back to being asleep. A trap I wanted to escape but I couldn’t until I came back to reality. Even now I’m still not entirely sure what it was trying to tell me.

I get those too. I wake up but the waking up was also a dream. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real.

I almost got hit by a car, when I wanted to cross a street and I almost had a giant ice block fall on to me; ghosts are normal part of life for me and have seen tons of nightmares and they are always very vivid. My dead grandmother scared me in my dream to death. I was terrified of seeing her in a dream, after she passed and the thing I feared happened. Feel like she wanted to play a prank on me.

In prep at school, was on a school excursion and the bus drove passed a tree and the windows smashed and kids had glass in their hair. No one called our parents.

Let's see spookiest was one winter night I went camping in the southern Appalachians with my Boy Scout group. Had to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Walking towards the latrine, I heard something following me. It would stop when I would stop, except sometimes I would hear it take a step or two. We don't get cougars or wolves over here, maybe a black bear it sounded big. I decided I could hold it until morning and crept back to my tent. It stopped following as I approached the clearing where our campsite was.

Ugh, I’m really sorry! That must have been awful to have to deal with.

The entire exterior wall to the kitchen in my college accommodation fell inwards. If I hadn’t stopped in the hall on the way to talk to another person I would have been hit by it. I almost drowned once, it got to the point I actually opened my mouth and inhaled water. I literally thought I was going to die then. To be honest seeing a spider on me is terrifying and usually leads to screaming.

One morning, I was walking alone and noticed a guy following me. The worse part about it is that I forgot my canister of pepper spray. Luckily, he noticed I was watching him and that I was facing the police station. I turned around to look at him, he shrugged and walked the other way.

Ever since then, I always kept my pepper spray on me whenever I leave the house.

Rode my Jeep into the side of a Verizon store a few years back. I say "rode" because I wasn't really driving at that point; more of a passenger, really, as I hydroplaned from the street, to the grass, and then straight through the wall. Found out shortly after that one of the employees was on their way to put something in the store safe, directly in the path of my vehicle. A few more seconds, and I'd have probably killed him, or at the very least put him in the hospital for a month.

Fast forward about 4 months later, had another accident. My mother was the driver this time, but that was the last straw for me. I constantly feel nervous behind the wheel and would never drive again if I didn't live in America. I cannot un-know how remarkably dangerous cars really are and how ignorant most people are to said danger.

Not the most harrowing story posted here, truly, but perhaps a reminder to those willing to hear it to be extra careful when you're driving; you're not just risking your own life.

A tornado (not any of the recent ones) came dangerously close to my house while my parents were upstairs getting my sister's kids out of the car. It looked like it was headed right for the house. I thought we were all going to die and was praying. Then it turned and went dangerously close to the powerline pole. I don't think tornadoes are even supposed to turn from their path but this one did. Tornadoes still give me anxiety.
